Windows Live Messenger Freezes Every so often

Ever since I installed Windows Live Messenger Beta 8.5, and ever since I think I installed Java Update 6,

WLM 8.5 constantly freezes. Its kind of like not responding for say 5 seconds, or sometimes longer, and then

it springs back to life and goes back to normal.

I type and all of a sudden the words stop, but if I keep typing, 10 seconds later all the words come up in one go.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled so many times, I have reverted back to MSN version 7.5, etc and earlier versions,

I have tried uninstalling Java, using different versions of Java, not running any Java whatsoever.

But it seems to keep giving me these random freezes / temporary lock ups no matter what I do.

Any ideas of what is causing this and what my solution is? No other program does this at all, not Yahoo Messenger or anything.

My Computer specs are :

CPU : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 6420 @ 2.13GHz 3.20 GHz ( overclocked to 3.2 GHz )

i cant view my cam to others

i have windows vista version with msn 8, i can veiw people cam and its ok, but the problem is when i try to view my cam to them it does says

Your conversation cannot begin because your camera is currently in use or not plugged in. Make sure your camera is available and try again.

* You have canceled your invitation to start viewing webcam.

and when i check the wb cam option on under tools, it does says " you cannot change your camers settings because either your camera is not pluged in to your computer or you are using it in a vedio callor with another application"

which is not true!!! my cam is built in camera and up to date!!!

can you help me pelase!!!

Messenger now locks up Netgear Routers

After an exhaustive talk with Netgear, I am dismayed to find they won't be doing any more firmware updates on the FVS124G - a gigabit firewall router that is an Enterprise network solution.

Messenger, when you try to log in, immediately causes the router to lock up. Nothing else causes this issue. Several users are extremely unhappy about it, and quite honestly I think Netgear really should rethink their EOL idealistic approach and do something about it.

We've tried changing the MTU lower, but there is nothing really else we can do.

Problem appeared mid-week, with many users reporting it, and the only two common elements being Messenger and the FVS124G. Obviously something changed in Messenger early this week (around the 21st of July 2009). What I want to know is: Anyone have any ideas what could be causing it? Is there a simple solution I could employ to stop it? Will Microsoft review the issue and see if they can do anything about it (doubtful)? Can they roll back whatever change caused it?

I'm pretty unimpressed - with Netgear mostly, and a little with Microsoft.

Messenger 9 won't let me send ZIP or RAR files

Had no problem with the old version, but it forced me to update and now I can't send .zip or .rar files - it says they might be dangerous and I have to install the anti-virus thing and scan them every time.

How do I switch that off so I can send files normally again?

You probably have noticed that by using Windows Live Messenger 2009 BETA, the Now Playing song in iTunes does not appear in your personal message even after you have checked the Show what I'm listening to option and enabled the Windows Live Messenger Music Plugin via Windows Media Player.
The music plugin works fine in WMP, but it breaks compatibility with iTunes after upgrading to the BETA Messenger.

The only workaround that I have found to this issue is to use a 3rd party software to send the song information to messenger. The Last.fm scrobbler allows your Now playing song to be sent to Windows Live Messenger and Skype. In other words, here is how the information is sent (depicts both WLM 8 and WLM 2009 BETA):

awful sound quality with the messenger live 2009

Why am I getting such awful sound with the new messenger 2009. Before it used to be fine?
My speakers work perfect with other programs and watching youtube for example is fine, but not messenger. I have set it up correctly in messenger.
It is like a crackling sound, very unclear. It's near impossible to hear the other person clearly.
The video is also always freezing.
This never happened with previous version of messenger.
Any ideas how to solve this. I reinstalled the program and get the same result.

Speech stops being sent on a call

5 mins. into a call, the other person can't hear me anymore, and my Mic (wired) stops showing that I'm talking. I have to end the call, and then call again every 5 mins. I wish I was more tech-savvy, but my expertise is gear not comps. It was OK until I updated to the new mandatory version. My Fiance is in Japan now, and I am not baller enough to use phone cards or call on my cell. :( Please help.

When I log on to Windows Live Messager, I am able to use the instent messager and I am able to see the other person but I am not able to clearly talk to the other person. The sound is not clear and all broken up. I am having the same problem on Windows XP and Windows Vista. I had to download the update based on the request from Microsoft and this problem started. It was working fine prior to the down load. I have completed a system restore and downloaded again and the problem will not go away..

I have a barcode scanner that comes with a dot.net dll so that I can programmatically control it, but I have to know what virtual com port number it has when the USB cable is connected. I have noticed that when I reboot the computer that the virtual com port number changes.

If I go to Device Manager and expand the Ports (COM & LPT) node the com ports are named but several have additional more descriptive names. My Barcode reader displaces "Opticon USB Code Reader (Com15)"

Does anyone know how to get this extended description programmatically in C#? The SerialPorts class method GetPortNames simply returns Com1, Com2, etc. I would like to iterate through the ports, identify the Com Port number with "Opticon USB Code Reader" tag and connect automatically without making the user open up Device Manager, find the correct number and then enter it interactively into my program.

Windows Live messenger 2009 won't sign in

Since a couple of days my messenger won't sign in
I have the latest messenger version....

I tried to uninstall and re-install it but the problem is still there

Sometimes it signs in but only stays signed in for like 5 seconds and
then it signs out again....
when it doesn't sign in I get the message that says
"signing in to windows live messenger failed because the service
is temporarily unavailable"
And it also has nothing to do with my firewall etc etc

I Have vista home premium....

Any thoughts on what can be the problem??

Ok so we have all heard that if you look in your messenger contact list and you right click on some one in your contact list or block list and the "delete" is not grey then you have been removed from their contact list.
I seem to be able to do this to some of my contacts even though I know for a fact that I am on their contact list.
If I look in their contact list it will show me, if I click view "all who have added you" then it will not show me as have added them to my list and the same when I do this on my list.
In my block list this is the same thing.
If this is bugged on my contacts then how can I make sure the people on my block list are really blocked or have really removed me from their contact list?

Windows Live Messanger will not update or install

Messanger forced me to update today but the update would not complete. I uninstalled and tried to install fresh but no luck. All windows updates are done, I cleared all temp files and cookies, rebooted several times. Turned off firewall and anti virus. Tried to load in safe mode. I continually get the following error and it's quite upsetting.

Messanger couldn't be installed because we had trouble installing this requirement. Microsoft application error reporting
Please try installing windows live again. An unknown error occurred. hr,0x80070015

Bonjour, je suis depuis ce matin sur un problème de téléchargement. Il m'st impossible désormais de me connecter avec mes contacts sur MSN, il faut obligatoirement télécharger la nouvelle version 2009 et je ne peux pas. Impossible aussi de revenir à l'ancienne version. I can't seem to get windows live messenger to open. Everything was working as usual until it randomly stopped responded and I was forced to end task. After ending task it will no longer open at all, i click on the icon and nothing happens, it isn't running in the task list either. I've uninstalled and reinstalled many times, nothing seems to comes up. Internet is working fine, firewalls are turned off, it just doesn't seem to ever open the program to allow me to sign in.

Are add-ins gone in the new version of messenger of is there something else I have to do?

Outlook Connector

I'm getting an error code when I start outlook. "The network connection has been interrupted. Please try again later."
I'm also have a problem trying to repair Outlook Connector, when running the repair it won't continue cause it's telling me that Microsoft Search Protocol Host (processID:2024) is still running.

please can someone please help with this error = OX 80004004 i tried to login to msm messenger and it said i had to install this new version which i have tried several times and still it comes up with this error code? i have checked all proxy settings and my firewall settings but it still wont work?? i have tried to delete this program and reinstall but it wont let me delete from programs?? i am not very computer savvy,but i will say anything that has gone wrong with this crappy thing i have had for a while,i have been able to fix myself... which makes me wonder if something i may have done at an earlier time has something to do with not being able to install an easy program as msn update installer?? everything was working fine till i went to sign in and had it say i needed to download/install to continue,as i say,i tried but has kept coming back it failed??? pleassseeee help!!! thanks xx

I just bought a new web cam and everything works outside of msn , i can take pictures, videos the works. As soon as i try to show my webcam to other people on msn it say webcam can not be started and to make sure it is not being used by another program .. but i know it isnt and i know i have it plugged in . when i make a video call it shows it to the other person but it is just black static . can anyone help me its driving me crazy?

You can use Google with key '0x80004004 messenger install 2009', and you'll 
find thousands of persons with problems in the installation of the WLM. The 
persons were obliged to upgrade to Messenger 2009, and they stay now without 
any Mensenger!

Most of the solutions points to uninstall Messenger, in advance, through the 
Control Panel, or with other utilities programs as REVO.

The problem is that 'The Messenger is already uninstalled' !
The installation of WLM 2009, goes well up to 100 %, and at this moment it 
begins to revert, doing rollback. Finally advise to Retry again, because 
there was an abendcode:0x80004004!

I can´t believe Microsof still did not have a solution for this generalized problem, 
annoying so many persons that buy Windows, like I did.

When I open my Windows Messanger it asks me if I would like to update it. I push yes, and then okay. The setup starts to download the update. It gets to 100%, and then it starts to go backwards down to 0%. Then it gives me an error message in the windows live window. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Microsoft\Win Helper Objects\{-}

There's a key inside the {-} Which I am not sure is safe to post. Then it says that there is another program preventing it from installing. hr:0x80070643 Nothing else is being ran or installing. I have closed everything, restarted my computer, and still no change. Can anyone help me???

windows live update box

Just recently installed Win7 also Windows Live. Everything has been working fine-- until yesterday-- clicked on the Windows Live icon and a box pops up advising me for permission to update the program. The desktop dims leaving the box intact, but there is a "no" which is outlined and a "yes" box to click if you are approving the change. What happens is everything freezes up mouse is inactive, and eventually the box goes away and the desktop is active. But I cannot open Windows Live, just receiving the same Users box over again. Thanks for any help.

Hello!

I was wondering if the browser being opened when you start Live Messenger, or when you use one of the "partner tabs" at the bottom of the application is IE-based? Or does it use your default browser?

I also want to know if the web pages launched in this browser can store cookies?

The window is docked right beside the Live Messenger window and has no toolbars and does not respond to right clicks, so I cannot find this out for myself!

Windows Live Messenger no longer working since update.

I was using Windows Live Messenger version 8.5 and always stuck with it because any of the newer versions would not work for me. I'm not sure why they never did. But now they I'm forced to update, it's not working again. I'm getting no errors, other than an occasional "Windows Live Communications Platform has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." type popup. I try to connect and it does nothing, it just goes right back to the sign in screen. I'm not getting any error messages unless I get the pop up that I listed above. I've never had any problem connecting to Windows Live before with 8.5 or any version lower, but since version 9 came out I've never been able to run it. I'm running build 14.8089.726. I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, removing all MSN/Live files/folders from my computer and registery. Nothing has worked. I'm not sure what else to do. When I go to the Connection Troubleshooter in the options it says everything is fine, I try to run the repair and I still get kicked back to the login screen, if I try the tests in the connection settings it says I'm able to connect. I'm using Windows XP pro, service pack 3.

I have a log of me trying to connect but it is too long to post on here.

Why are we being forced to use Version 9 of Windows Live Messenger? Windows Live Vers. 8 worked just fine for me, and the latest version screws up my contact lists & other info!!!

I had windows Live Messenger 8....happy for years...all of a sudden Microsoft send me a message informing me that I "must" upgrade to be able to continue....when I did not ugrade inmediately it kept bombarding me with same message continuously. Finally I did the upload to the famous 9. The page came all right to my screen but had taken or remove my complete list of friends....saying "you don't have any friends...start adding friends"
Then it would stay for about one minute and it goes away....vanishes. In other ways...I can't use it if it doesn't stay open.right?
I have gone to stat, run and list to remove but messenger is not listed....my famous Windows Live new upgrade messenger 9 is not listed !
At the same time, all of a sudden "an old version I had "years" ago appeared in my screen in one of those toooooo many darn times in which I had enter and enter this silly program to try to perform a miracle !
So now I have and I am using "Windows Messenger 4" it contained all my friends and at least I can communicate with my family abroad and friends which was the idea intended. But.....this old messenger does not have the phone or camara fixtures I would like to have which I was so happy with my messenger8.
I dont want to loose my messenger4 which also "is not" listed in change-remove programs.
If I follow the intructions read here in one of the answers I coud erase my messenger4 without knowing....and that would be very sad !
How can I go back to my Messenger 8 ?
How do I delete this messenger 9 upgrade ghost if not listed in programs ?
Please ....I need help....thank you very, very much.

I have the following problem:

I want my messenger to remind my sign-in information (account and password) I select the options at the sign in screen but whenever I restart my pc and try again it doesn't remember them.

I am using Windows Live Messenger Version 2009 (14.0.8064.206).

Windows Live messenger constantly disconnecting

Hello there,

Well my windows live messenger just keeps on disconnecting and reconnecting by itself, which is quite annoying when you're using audio or webcam... The thing is that I get no error message, it just disconnects me, period. My internet is fully functionnal and I haven't noticed anything weird with it. My firewall has no problems either, in fact everything is the same as it was before this problem started. I ran several virus scans without any results, reinstalled messenger several times, even tried with the standard and older windows messenger, which disconnected too, but a lot less frequently. I would like to get some help about this, if such a problem can be solved.
