I too have the same problem so I cannot help you here. I also noticed (you may have noriced this too) the properties button is greyed out. I wonder if that also contributes to the problem.

i ddi this a while back but it doesnt really work.  when you play asong through windows media player it doesnt come up on windows ;ive messenger. However if i have a song in a shared folder on windows live messenger and open it through there the song is displayed.  I certainly think this problem only happens with vista computers

    I have the same problem.

However my option to "show what i'm listening to" when I try to 'apply' it, a pop-up message says that feature is only available with WMP Ver. 9 or later.  I have WMP VER. 11?!

In windows media player 11 the windows live messenger plugin is ticked

My live messenger is Version 2008, my WMP is Ver. 11 and my OS is Windows XP Home Edition.

    HELP!!!

Go into your windows media player and click on "Tools"-"Plug-Ins" and tick "Windows Live Messenger Music Plug-In", then in Windows Live Messenger click on the drop-down box on your personal message and tick "Show What I'm Listening To".

    Hope it's helpful.

I had the same problem, just download itunes and you can drag all your music files into itunes and when you play them they will automatically show up on windows live messenger.

    Hope this helped

I followed your instructions and still it didn't work.  There wasn't a msgrapp.dll file in my windows live msg folder but msgrapp.8.5.1302.1018.dll file instead.

I copied that file to my windows media player folder. Then continued to follow your instructions, restarted media player, went to my windows live msgr, went to tools, then options, ticked the box that should enable the "now playing feature", said "apply" and still it said, "This feature requires windows media player 9 or later. To install the latest version, click ok", then when I do that, I'm directed to download WMP ver.11 which I already have!?

I haven't been able to use that plug in for months now.

I gave up on that feature until lately when I started getting these alerts.

Can this be fixed or no??

I Am Able To See The Music That Is Playing In W.M.P. However, Whenever I Listen To An Online Audio Stream (e.g. 970 WFLA), It Doesn't Show Up. I Tried To Troubleshoot This Problem In The W.L.M. Help Forum, But I Couldn't Find Anything.
    Help Would Be Appreciated.

Thankyou so much Charlie God. This was the fix!!
'Yes' to others who give the suggestions of where to enable it in both Windows Media Player and MSN ..but I think the 'problem' people are referring to is when you already have it enabled in both Windows Media Player and MSN..and then it just stops working..and I'd say usually from an update in either program. (With me, it was an update to MSN.) So doing as Charlie God suggests really does work!!

I am using Windows 7 32 bits with Windows Live Messenger 9 and of course Windows Media Player 12 and my messenger never shows>> Now Playing in its screen, so my contacts never knows what I am listening to. I am also using the KLite Mega Pack codecs specified to Windows Vista and 7 so I tried everything in terms of tips and it's not working so far. I read all quotes and tips about msgrapp.dll I hope that is possible to find a way to correct the problem and no I am not interested in re-install all my Windows 7 no way.

    Thanks in advance
    Monica

well the only way i get it to work is by running the actual windows media player program as administrator and then play songs and it will show up so the problem wid windows vista is the permission things that don't allow it to show
