It may be some sort of spyware. Use this tool to check: http://safety.live.com

Do you use Messenger Plus! ?

I have the same problem.  It started the day I upgraded to MSN Live Messenger 2009.  Did you find out what causes it?

Same here... and I installed the messenger just after a clean format, so it can't be a malware/spyware/virus thingy.
I read somewhere this can be fixed if you manually put in the msvcrt.dll from the XP installation cd, but honestly this should be fixed by msn...

The error occour when I open msn, when I log on to msn, when I try to send a message, when ppl send me a message... Really annoying.
I did a scan, and theres nothing found on the pc. The error makes running fullscreen programs crash when this happen, with an "Error exception cought" popup...

Hey there...I had the very same problem as you have and i kinda solved the problem like this:

download the windows install cleanup utility
use it to download the msn messenger
go to program files and delete the windows live or msn messenger folder
then search for the WLM messenger version 8.5, you can type search like this: install_WLMessneger.msi
i think its kinda of compabilitty problem with the new msn 2009, but dont know for sure, anyway the 8.5 version its still good for me:D
install and hopefully this will solve your problem

I got the .msi version of the program cause i am using the windows corporate x64 version
I dont know if the normal .exe setup works for you, try my version first.
If you resolve your problem please let me know;)
