Get profile image URL from a logged user

Hi! nice toolkit here, I'm starting to play with it and have a first question.

In the project that I'm trying to integrate WLM I can't use the tags (I wish I could!), like <msgr:profile cid="$user"></msgr:profile>

So what I need is a way to get the profile image URL (only the URL) of a logged user to store it in the database and use it later. I'm reading documentation and can't found a solution, is this possible? Could also use some method to retrieve this URL for a given user id, for example...

2)at logon, I throws cake to the user logging on.
3)after loading the page, messenger:

I am new in here
Just wanted some help with my messenger contact settings.
Urm.. I wanted no offline contacts to be seen but just available people.
There can be like an available group and an offline group and the available people to be automatically shifted from offline group when they come online.
I had done this once but i forgot how i had done it.
So can you tell me how to get this thing done on windows live messenger?

WLM SDK 3.0 API : To update personal information of contacts from Contact List

Hello,
As of I know, below is possible using JS provided for usng 3.0 WLM API:
1. Add User / Group
2. Modify group of User
3. Display presence (Online / Away / Busy etc)

But I would like to know whether it is possible to update personal information of contacts which we store in our Live / Hotmail account while adding that user in contact list.

An early response is much appreciated.

Hello,

Has something changed recently on the behavior of the API concerning the multiple point of presence ? I'm using the 3.1 web toolkit.
I remember that few days ago when using the bar and the Windows client simultaneously I had the mpop features (connected from multiple place, disconnect from all, etc...).
Today I don't have it anymore. It's like web access is not considered like another place. Both access works independently (without disconnected each other, and without notification of connection from multiple places)...
Is it normal ? Or the issue if from my side ?

windows live messenger signs me out automatically

Ever since I have updated to the newest WLM I have been having problems. I have un-installed and re-installed the programme loads of times, nothing changes. An error used to pop up saying 'windows live communications platform has encountered a problem and needs to close' but now I sign in and after about 30 seconds it signs me out with no warning. I have scanned my laptop for viruses incase that was causing it but no luck. I've not been able to use WLM for a few months now.

Hello, so I am using the Windows Live Library and trying to get the Windows Live Delegated login setup working, however, when I do so and the window pops up and asks for my password to my account, I then hit login and I get this error:

There's a problem with the site you are trying to share your information with. Please try again later. (Error code: 3007)

I have looked around, and nothing refers to an error code of 3007, any help?

Internal Service Error when signing in with delegated auth

Intermittently (about 50% of all tries), I get 500 - InternalServiceError when trying the sign into Live Messenger on my Web page. Consent and Delegation tokens are OK.

Search control bug in application contactlist?

The search control in the contactlist does not find my application contacts when I have set application(site) specific displaynames via the <msgr:app-contact display-name property, however when I search with the msn default display-name(which is hidden) it´s finding it, however the idea of this application contacts concept it to hide(keep secret) the msn display-name for users who are not msn buddies that means that the search control need to be able to find site specific display-names as well.

Is this a bug in the search control or is there a way to get around this limitation?

I have one question about blocking contacts.

Is it true that if I block a contact in WebMessenger Bar, this contact should be also blocked in the Live Messenger?

I did some test and it doesn't work like this. I don't know it is a bug or normal behaviour. During test I was sign-in into the same account in WebMessenger Bar and Live Messenger.

Hi everyone,
Sometimes the error 3007 occurs in the situation when a window of the web browser in which we use WebMessenger Bar is open too long. A user is logged in to the bar but he/she does nothing in it (no conversation, no action). When the user loggs out from the bar and tries to log in after a while then the Error code: 3007 appear on the web page.

I would like to ask the following questions:

Why does this error appear?

Is there any way to avoid this error?

Contacts not loading on messenger bar

I have downloaded the messenger web toolkit, took the code inside Samples\WebToolkit\GettingStarted\VB after updating the appid and secret key. I am able to sign in to messenger from my web page by clicking on the bar, but I cannot view my contacts. Also, I get signed off after a few seconds. When I refresh the page, I am able to sign in again. Do I need to add any more code to load my contacts?

I am using web authenticatio to login to my website (this was already implemented) and using the existing token to login to messenger, once the user signs in.

Any help is appreciated.

Strange behavior of the 3.1 messenger bar with a broken user agent string ?

Hello,

I seems that a broken user-agent string causes a strange display of the messenger bar. The bar is displayed on the middle of the screen instead of the bottom. Observed with toolkit 3.1 and MSIE 8 (but not tested with another versions).
The user agent string :

"Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.1; Trident/4.0; Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1) ; SLCC2; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; Media Center PC 6.0; OfficeLiveConnector.1.4; OfficeLivePatch.1.3)

Both css for IE6 and IE7 are downloaded during the bar initialization. Might be the cause ?
A simpliest user-agent string from a browser on another PC does not reproduce the bug.

Consent token null after refresh using Live Messenger Library

Hi,

I'm having trouble getting a refreshed consent token.

I use a cookie to store the consent token once the user is first signed in. After a while (something like 24 hours) the delegation token contained in the stored token has expired, and I need to refresh the consent to get a new consent token.

I've followed the instructions on "Refreshing Content"

To get the new consent cookie I do the following:

1. Get the cookie-contained consent token

2. Try to sign in with the delegation token from that consent token

3. If it doesn't succeed, I assume that the delegation token has expired

4. Extract the refresh token from the old consent token

5. Load the URL (consent.messenger.services.live.com/RefreshToken.aspx or consent.live.com/RefreshToken.aspx - the result is the same) with the refresh token and my app verifier token as parameters

6. Retrieve the response

This is how my request looks like:

My problem is that the response is always {"ConsentToken":null}

I use the Live Messenger JavaScript Library and the DelegatedAuthControl as outlined in "How To: Sign In to Windows Live Messenger"

I wonder if my problems have anything to do with the fact that I couln't decide what to put in the paramters for return URL and permissions, because

1) I don't use a return URL since the procedure in "How To: Sign In to Windows Live Messenger" and the DelegatedAuthControl doesn't seem to use any return URLs.

2) I don't specify any offers or actions on sign in, and hence I do not have a clue what I need to specify in the "Permissions" parameter.

What am I doing wrong? What is the proper way to refresh a consent token when using Javascript Library and the DelegatedAuthControl?

Hi All,
I have problem how to use properly Application Contact in my application. Any suggestion would be welcome.

I have a web page on which I display a list of comments. On this page I place status controls for individual users <msgr:status cid="$user"></msgr:status> . The number of the comments is 200 per page. In fact there is no limited number of pages with comments a user can browse.

I want to use Messenger Application Key to initialize the application contacts. First I prepare proper XML message with CIDs. Then I sign it. And then result put on page:
    <msgr:app-contacts
        contacts="<%=xml%>"
        signature="<%=signature%>">
    </msgr:app-contacts>

Everything works fine, but when user will visit more pages he will see a message "There's a problem with this site. You might not be able to see your full contact list".

Until now I thought that the WebMessenger API takes care about proper initialization Application Contact on every page. But I see that the Application contacts are cumulative for the entire application (is this ok???).

Maybe someone has an idea how to solve this problem? Any fragment of code or example will be welcome :)

Hi,

I am trying to implement the msn messenger chat window in our web application based on the code below in this URL.

We are behind a firewall and when the URL loads up the the top RHS pane in that page is blocked by our company security rules(as mail sites/chat applications are blocked within our company). If I need to get this unblocked, which URL should i mention to our security team as I am not able to get the exact url that loads in the RHS pane.

Is it http://messenger.msn.com or

http://mail.live.com or ???

I'm attempting to upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7, but it keeps freezing on the last step of the installation and forces me to force shut off my computer, and then it moves back to the previous version of Windows. Has anyone else been having a similar problem? I've run the compatibility checker several times, and every time it says my system is upgrade eligible, but it has yet to work. Any help with this problem would be fantastic!

cross-page sign in; how do I get the Identity object?

I'm having trouble with persisting a signed in user's data across pages.

The only documentation I have found on the subject is here:

"An application should authenticate and sign in a user in the same way on every page. It does so by initializing an Identity object and calling User.SignIn with the Identity object."

How do I do this? Where is the Identity object? Is this supposed to be stored in the browsers local storage, and in that case, how do I retrieve it? I use the code in the resulting signin.js from:

There was no problem signing in on the first page (application verification token and consent/delegation tokens are OK), but on subsequent pages the _user object is null because it simply has not been initialized and signed in.

Any help is appreciated!

Accessing Live Messenger user profile with minimum effort

Hello all,

On my webpage, I need to get the Live ID (the email used in Live Messenger) of a logged in user. I also need to add a conact to that user's contact list. How do I do this with minumum effort? Do I have to use the Windows Live Library and go through all the hoops with consent tokens etc? I cannot use the msnim:add?contact= hyperlink as I need this to work on all browsers.

Chrome and Firefox javascript operations incompatibility?

Hi I have tested my application on Chrome and Firefox and as far as I can tell they don't support the instantiation of a messenger application through javascript, is it the browsers fault? no problems at all on Internet Explorer however Chrome goes for the worst and does not even let download application contact information or create application contacts and other issues

Hi,
In my application I would like it so that when the user clicks log out, they are logged out of the site and also from messenger. However, I dont see any way to programmatically log out the user other than explicily clicking sign out in the messenger control. Any way to do this?

Greetings people,

I’m modeling my ASP.NET master page after the Pulse sample (“MakeYourWebSiteSocial” example under “Windows Live Messenger Web Toolkit 3.5”). It has several C# codes that I could successfully use to sign my user onto the site.

I could get user email address (IMAddress) through JavaScript on the client side (browser), but I’d like to retrieve the email address on my server (so that I can store it in my database). Is it even possible to do that?

Here’s how my master page code-behind look like:
