Contacts not loading on messenger bar

Question

I have downloaded the messenger web toolkit, took the code inside Samples\WebToolkit\GettingStarted\VB after updating the appid and secret key. I am able to sign in to messenger from my web page by clicking on the bar, but I cannot view my contacts. Also, I get signed off after a few seconds. When I refresh the page, I am able to sign in again. Do I need to add any more code to load my contacts?

I am using web authenticatio to login to my website (this was already implemented) and using the existing token to login to messenger, once the user signs in.

Any help is appreciated.

By default, the Web Bar displays only online contacts. Does this explain the behavior your seeing?

Surely getting signed-off after few seconds sounds like a problem. Would be able to include a Fiddler trace for such a session?

As a follow-up, the reported problem happened because the user’s browser was behind a firewall or proxy that was blocking HTTP traffic http://*.gateway.edge.messenger.live.com
