Messenger Sound Alerts, New Messages

Question

When i am talking to someone in messenger, it seems like I only get a sound alert when the window is not my focus.  Often I leave it my focus while doing something else and then I end up missing messages because I dont hear anything.

 

Is there anyway to make it like nearly every other messenger, alert me whenever there is a message regardless of whether that window is my focus or not?

Anyone have a solution for this problem?  I am trying to go back to using Messenger from Digsby, but this problem is a pain.  The developers unfortunately assume if the window has focus you are always look at the computer.
