Hello,

I am considering integrating my application with the Windows Live Alerts API. However, I am slightly confused by how some of the terms are used. Can someone please explain to me:

What is a group? (as used in this task: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb259732.aspx )
What is a partner? (as used in this task: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb259743.aspx )
What is a subscriber (as used in this task: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb259741.aspx )

Basically, I have a content management system. I'm trying to give my users some automated daily reports based on search criteria that they choose. Each user will have their own configurable search criteria. I think I can do this with Windows Live Alerts, that's why I'm asking these questions.

Windows live mail trouble

I recently updated to the newest version of window live mail... it worked

fine for a few days but now comes up with an error after i sign in... there

is a box that pops up that says " Recovering the Windows Live Mail database"

and then the error box pops up and shuts down the application. This is exactly what 

is says on the 1st window : Windows live mail could not be started. The application was unable to

open the windows live mail message store. WLM was unable to locate its message database. If you've

moved the database path to a new location, click OK to reset the database path to that location. 

Otherwise, click Cancel to proceed, any existing message found will be available under Orphaned 

Accounts. (0x00000000,2). When i click OK, a second windows pop out saying : WLM could not

be started. The app was unable to open the WLM message store. Your computer maybe out of memory

or our disc is full. (0x80070002) And if i click Cancel, the same window appears.

Someone advised me on using SMTP protocol....will this work,given that I shall later transfer my app to a server for it's deployment?

I used the following statement in my asp.net application but it does not create and assign any value. There is no compilation error.

I know this is not a user support forum, but I couldn't find an place that is. I want to get alerts to my e-mail, but I'm being asked to validate, and when I try that, I get:

Your e-mail address cannot be verified at this time. Please try again later. If you continue having problems, please check your e-mail inbox for a message from Windows Live ID

There's no mail in my inbox from Windows Live ID (unless it's going by the name Maryellen these days and advertising Canadian pharmacies). I went over the list of forums, and couldn't find any place to ask, nor any other way to get help, or any information about this message. Help will be appreciated.

Hi Team,

I'm going to set about the Alert Development. And through the SDK learning, some questions for begining of work still wait your help.

1. Where and How to apply PartnerUID for one application on both Testing Env and Production Env, are they in the same?
2. what process or preparation else I need to do for developing alert service?
3. I've got validation mechanism for alert service is partnerID+IP, but what's IP mean? proxy IP, server ip, or internet accessiable public IP.
And for testing env, do I have to send each request in dev mode from the solely server which IP is registrated in alert service list? if not, the request will be denied?

Windows live alerts will not display

When trying to view recent live alerts, i receive a error message, An Error Has Occurred an the address bar reads, http://signup.alerts.live.com/alerts/globalError.do. If i click on the MY ALERTS an d click recent alerts there, the alerts will display. MSN SUPPORT has been no help at all. They pass the buck as this is not their problem. Microsoft said the same thing and that I needed to go to this forum for help. So, please HELP.

I would use the Windows Live Alerts SDK in a Windows Azure application and because one of the informations required to get started is "List of partner IP Addresses for Development and Production machines (Live Alerts uses IP Filtering for SDK implementations)" I suppose that is not possible to use it from a Windows Azure service, rigth?

Hello,

After calling InitiateSignup, I check the value of the (RecAlertsRequestResponse object).response.statusCode. When it is 0, I redirect to (RecAlertsRequestResponse object).URL. This URL is "http://signup.alerts.live-ppe.com/alerts/validatePassport.do?ptID=xxxxx&PINID=xxxxxxxx". This site either has a "Sign In" button or a "Continue" button. The "Continue" button appears to be displayed if a Live Alert account is currently signed in. However, clicking "sign out" and then repeating this process results in the user still not being displayed with a "Sign In" button. I have gone to http://alerts.live.com/Alerts/Default.aspx and confirmed that I am not logged in. The only fix I have found is clearing all browser data and then closing and reopening the browser. I have seen this in IE8 and Chrome. Is there some way to always have the "Sign In" button displayed instead of the "Continue" button?

The memory could not be written.

changing sign in id?

Hello,
I dont know if this is the right spot to ask this question, but I cant seem to get help anywhere else.
Last night I got an instant message when I signed into WL and it said I had to change my sign in ID. When I tried it says I cant change it and says that it cant be changed now. I am now worried that this isnt real and I was duped into following a fake link. If this is true, does anyone know what is happening and how it will affect us?
If someone can let me know I would greatly appreciate it.

Here i m using ISampleGrabber to capture the bitmap, with the methods of one snap shot, and setting the buffer, but the problem is with GetCurrentBuffer, as it is returning VFW_E_WRONG_STATE, which means that the filter is nor receiving the samples.............

how to capture a bitmap from the TV tuner

i have some around 10 tv tuners, i have to select a particular one, and get a hold of it, after getting hold on any one tv tuner of the users choice, i have to set the crossbar, by default it was antenna cable, so i have changed it to composite video. after setting the i have build the capture graph filter. then after this i have tried to capturing the video from the running stream from the tuner for some specified time............... after this i m trying to capture the bitmap from the same file, which is working fine.......... but if i try to capture the bitmap before the video capturing then i m facing the problem

i hav used iSampleGrabber interface, the mathods to set the one shot mode, to set the buffer is all done, but for GetCurrentBuffer method, its giving error. by checking all the posssible return values i found the GetCurrentBuffer method is returning VFW_E_WRONG_STATE, which means the filter is not receiving the samples..................

any suggestion would b appreciable

From my client code, I am trying to call InitiateSignup method on subscription service with the details I have received from alerts SDK team. but its throwing following exception:

Unable to automatically step into the server. Connecting to the server machine 'services.alerts.live.com' failed. The debugger cannot connect to the remote computer. This may be because the remote computer does not exist or a firewall may be preventing communication to the remote computer. Please see Help for assistance.

I was sending & receiving Liver alert to messanger till friday using alert SDK. However it is not working.

All the other API are working. I have checked them today. The messageService.Deliver is returning 0 "meaning successs" but no alerts are coming.

Has anyone faced similar problems????

Hi guys,

I was wondering if someone could instruct me or point me towards some documentation that would allow me to create a simple Windows Live Messenger Alert.

I am starting to look into the Windows Live Alerts SDK: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb259769.aspx but I am unsure as to whether my situation is complex enough to be worth using the SDK.

If I create an RSS feed that I update myself then i guess I could simply follow the following instructions: http://signup.alerts.live.com/brochure/index.jsp

Also, just to check, a user can sign up to an alert from a tab right?

Hi all.

I would like to raise an alert/send a message on a by-user basis. I want to do this from an Azure web application. I also want to take advantage of the Messenger client.

Is a blend of Azure and Live Alerts a good (possible?) way of doing this? Can anyone point me at any blogs or sample code?

Is it possible to use the rss feed alerts or alerts sdk without having a fixed IP.

We have a workflow product, and it would be nice to alert people involved in the workflow about some news. The problem is that the IP is going to be the IP address of each company that uses our product.

Is there any way to achieve that?

UYVY to RGB colorformat

I try to convert an uncompressed avi in UYVY colorformat into RGB

colorformat. I've tried to write a filter with DirectShow but I have a
problem converting the pixels (i don't understand the way they are set
in UYVY format). So I've tried an existing compressor to add it in
graphedit program : msyuv.dll from microsoft and it should convert from
UYVY to RGB. The problem is that I cannot register this dll into the
system and thus I can't use it. Any idea how to register it into
system? I've tried with regsvr32.exe and with gacutil.exe but it didn't
worked. Or any idea how to do this conversion. Thanks

A few RSS feeds

Hi!

I'm wondering if there is a simple solution for setting up the alerts for a few RSS feeds, say, for three feeds located on the same web site with different URLs. I know that there is a zero development solution [http://signup.alerts.live.com/brochure/index.jsp] that works in case of one RSS feed. Is there a similar solution, or can I apply the same one, or should I solve my task programmatically applying the SDK?

For example, will it work if I fill out a form a few times for each my RSS feed separately?

I testing the Windows Alerts Service and am trying to send custom messages to a user with different IM, Content and email neither the custom email nor the IM message appears to get dilevered, only the toater popup and the email with the alert message arrives

This is a sample of the type of code i am using to send the alert

hi there,

i realize that the Alerts Message and Subscription service filter based on IP .. so given that, i'm wondering what other folks have used to deal with testing and hosting scenarios that use DHCP / localhost or move IP's regularly?

- developing and testing alert functionality on localhost seems to be challenged in this regard ?

- we host on a provider that doesn't provide us with a fixed IP address so while i can email the alerts sdk team and get new ip's added to the allowed list this really isn't practical in production.

what are folks doing?

I had already send an email to alertsdk@microsoft.com and AlertsSU@Microsoft.com in order to activate my account to use the alerts with SDK (21/01/08). I'm still waiting the reply (5 business day ???).

Each week, I'd send a new one... but always no reply...

I had a PIN & a PPE Environment password for our website. Now, I had finished the testing of my Alert service. And i want to put it to the production environment. How can i do it?
