Hey
I've recently installed Windows 8 on my Toshiba. It runs fine but sometimes when I start up a program like VLC or Chrome it freezes and a blue screen pops up stating that the pc has run in to a problem it cant handle and it needs to restart. It tells me that the problem is DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION and I can search it up online, but when I did I couldn't find anything. I read some forms related to my situation but couldn't find a decent solution. so if any one can provide a step by step instruction to my problem, it will be appreciated.
Thanks

I forgot to mention that every time my pc restarts, it turns off my windows defender and my antivirus. I don't know why that happens but I always turn my settings on after the restart, but after a few hours it crashes again and when it restarts, its turned off again. I use AVG (free edition) and it has created a problem in it, I guess, because now it doesn't work properly and it keeps failing. I tried uninstalling it but some error keeps showing up saying that it can't be found. If someone can find a solution to this it would be really helpful.
Thanks

Hello Mattysadii,
You might want to look at the information in the article below regarding DPC_Watchdog.
http://www.itknowledge24.com/blog/windows-8/windows-8-developer-preview-bsod-dpc-watchdog-violation/
However, you do not need additional antivirus as Windows Developer Preview has an anti-virus installed by default in the operating system.
I suggest you uninstall AVG and see if you still get the same error message.
USe the link to download the AVG removal tool:

Please reply back and let us know.
