Not able to connect to Azure Web role external endpoint

Question

Trying to connect to the Azure Web role configured external endpoint(1433) from my desktop. Once previous it had worked on disabling the firewall on azure role, but now its not working.

When i try connecting it gives "Failed to receive message -Unable to read beyond the end of the stream" error.

It would be very helpful, if anyone have had this issue and have resolved.

Hi Girish,

Have you verified if your local environment allows outgoing connections to port 1433?

• Verify the firewall of your machine if this is allowed
• Verify if the network you are on allows this (maybe there is a company firewall or a proxy blocking the connection)

In addition to Sandrino's comments, are you sure it is the connection that is failing?  Based on the error message "Unable to ready beyond the end of the stream", my first assumption would be a problem reading the data (perhaps a bug in the code) and not that the code can't connect to the web role instance.

Port 1433 is open on my company firewall and is used for connecting SQL Azure via SQL Server Management Studio.

Because of 1433 is open, time being using the same port as tcp input type endpoint on Azure web(65.52.227.99:1433).

i was able to connect to endpoints after changing the guest OS to 2008 R2.
