    Hi,

    I'm trying to setup a CDN with a custom domain with the format download.mydomain.com. However, I'm using Office 365 for domain management and I can't figure out how to set a cname for verification. I've successfully tested adding mydomain.com as a custom domain but when trying to add a subdomain Office 365 will not allow cname in format "<guid>.download". What am I doing wrong?

    In Office 365, you need to add your 3rd level domain (download.mydomain.com) as a new custom domain. And then you you can add <guid> as a CNAME to the new custom domain (download.mydomain.com). CNAME's and A records cannot contain a ".". Some domain management tools assume that you're trying to add another level and will do that behind the scenes for you, Office 365 does not.

    Hi Eric, thanks for your reply. It makes sense except for one thing, how do I create a new 3rd level domain? If I just try to add a new domain (Specify domain/check domain), it is not allowed.

    Subdomains/3rd level domains are only allowed for Office 365 for enterprises customers.

    Do you have Office 365 for enterprises or Office 365 for professional and small businesses?

    Also, this doesn't feel like a Windows Azure question any more, but more of an Office 365 domain management question and we should really move to another forum, but unfortunately there's just not a great option. There's an Office 365 community site that has forums, but it's not as friendly as the MSDN or TechNet forums, and it forces you to authenticate with your Office 365 account and not your normal Windows Live ID.

    Enterprise only. I'm using small business version (P1). That explains my problem. Now I have something to go on. Thanks again Eric!

    No problem. If Office 365 for enterprises doesn't make sense for your needs, you could move your domain out to another registrar and manage the DNS there or just move the DNS to a third-party DNS service.
