I'm delighted to announce that the second preview of my free ebook from Microsoft Press, Programming Windows 8 Apps with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, is now available for the RTM release of Windows. The full announcement, including the material covered in the added chapters (12 in all now), is on http://blogs.msdn.com/b/microsoft_press/archive/2012/08/20/free-ebook-programming-windows-8-apps-with-html-css-and-javascript-second-preview.aspx.
I'm happy to hear any and all feedback. You can direct it to me via Microsoft Press' address, msinput (at) Microsoft.com, or myself at kraig (at) kraigbrockschmidt.com.
Enjoy!

Monday, October 08, 2012 3:03 AMGood thing it covers a bunch of easy stuff on which there's tons of cross reference, but doesn't cover any of the difficult topics that the developers actually need help with before launch, like the Store, where we're all supposed to be making money.

Monday, October 08, 2012 4:15 AMThe version that we put out at RTM is a "preview" and the Introduction and Chapter 1 clearly indicate that there are additional chapters that were not, as of the second preview, actually written. The final book that we're wrapping up now includes chapters 13-17 that include live tiles/notifications (including writing and debugging a periodic update service and a service to work with WNS, stuff that's hardly documented at all), WinRT components, and coverage of the Store along with Localization and Accessibility. Hopefully that will be more satisfactory.
