    How can I change the FileOpenPicker background color or set the theme? override the system brush? anything?

    You cannot change FileOpenPicker colors or theme.

    Shame. Reluctantly accepted that as answer. Still hoping MS will come forward with an official/supported way to changed the Storage.Picker's background or allow the OS theme to be changed per in-app level.
