What were the design goals of .NET for Metro style apps?

This context certainly proves useful for developers. It shows the feature areas and I retrieved important information through it. I think, no other app store provides a better framework for app development.
The design of windows store/metro style apps really grows on me. The Colours, Buttons and all UI-Elements have a modern, but very expressive style, what makes me wanna try out new apps.
To sum up, the design really amazes me and I´m looking forward to my first app.
