When I run this code in the Sandbox, I get the Sandobx QoS warning ("You have third-party code that may be degrading your web page"). While this alert is up, the page isn't being updated, of course; but if I click "Cancel" (to disable the offending code), the clock continues to update normally.

If the host page used a QoS policy that automatically suspended offending code without an alert(), there would be no interruption to the clock.
