Webtest to record button clicks which do not generate requests

Hello, forum dwellers.

I am at a loss

I'm making a web test for forms. I need my webtest to check that error messages appear when a form button is pressed which does not generate an http request.
what should I do here?
Is there anyway to generate the action of pressing a button and to validate for something after the button was pressed?

The web test works at the HTTP level so you are  not going to be able to do that with a recorded web test in VS 2008.  VS 2010 will have an answer for you.  See part four of this blog to see what it looks like.  In the recording I am testing a WPF app but it will work for browser apps as well.
