VS2008 error: "..cannot be opened because its project type (.dbproj) is not supported by this version of the application"

Symptoms

If you attempt to open a TFS project with VS2008 Professional, you will see this error. The error message is completely unhelpful. I did not even know about the VS2008 TFS sku. It would be easy to create a KB to instruct VS2008 users that if they see this error, its because they need VS2008 TFS sku to get all the TFS features.

 

Cause

VS2008 Professional does not support all TFS related features.

 

Resolution

=============================

Load the sln with VS2008 TFS sku

 

Repro Steps

=============================
Attempt loading a tfs sln with VS2008 Pro
