Visual Studio 2012 Profiler

Hi All,
We work on a domain.local Windows network and every time a developer runs the VS2012 profiler he is prompted for the admin account. This prevent us from evaluating this strategic tool.
Is this a bug? How can we avoid this?
Thanks,
Alberto

Hi Alberto,
I am moving your case to the Visual Studio Performance Tools (Profiler) forum so that you can get better support there.
Thanks.

Hi devdept,
Thank you for posting in the MSDN forum.
Just to make this issue clearly, are you using the Visual Studio Performance Tools as this MSDN document? How did you run it? Do you use it to analyze an application performance?
He is prompted for the admin account. This prevent us from evaluating this strategic tool.
Could you share us a screen shot about the result? Do you mean that it will show a window “prompted for the admin account.” when you use the Visual Studio Performance tool to analyze an application? If so, whether all projects have the same issue? How about opening your VS as the admin? Whether it has the same issue?
For example, if we profile a Web Site or Web Application using the Performance wizard, it seems that it has some Permissions limits:

If I have misunderstood anything, please make free feel to let me know.

Hi Jack,
Sorry for the delay in my answer, but to finish my job I needed to re-install Red-Gate ANTS Profiler.
1) We tried all ways to start it (different menu entries)
2) Yes, like when you try to install an app on a client and you need the administrator account
3) This is not the point, developers don't have an admin account. We also tried to run vsperf.exe as admin the first time but nothing has changed.
4) We don't do Web development, I am talking about a simply WinForms app.
Thanks,
Alberto

Hi devdept,
Glad to receive your reply.
Sorry for the delay in my answer, but to finish my job I needed to re-install Red-Gate ANTS Profiler.
Based on this MSDN document, it seems that Red Gate ANTS Performance Profiler and ANTS Memory Profiler are another set of commercial profiling tools that analyze Windows Forms apps and others, so you will use this tool, and you don’t use the VS profiler tool, am I right?

Hi Jack,
At the moment VStudio Profiler requires a admin account every time we use it and you get annoyed pretty soon. On another dev machine we can't run it even with admin account.
We look forward to use this MS tool but today for us is impossible for the permission issue reported.
Thanks,

Hi Alberto,
Since you would use another profiling tool, so I would mark your reply as the answer and close this thread, if you need further assistance, please feel free to let us know.
Have a nice day,

What kind of assistance is this? You are happy to see customers switching to a different tool instead of try to fix MS Profiler issues?
Thanks,

Hi Alberto,
Sorry for my misunderstanding about this issue.
If an Administrator of a computer grants the security permissions required for profiling to a user or group that does not have Administrator permissions on that computer. One idea is that the members of the Users group will need access to the folders and files on disk that are shared with other members of the team. The second procedure, "To grant access to shared project files," describes how to grant that access.
For detailed steps, see “How to: Set Profiling Permissions”. Hope it could help.
Sincerely,

As my previous reply, if shared the files with other members no help, I’m afraid that I didn’t have a good idea, and I feel that these questions require a more in-depth level of support. To help you resolve this issue, I suggest you visit the following link to see the various paid support options that are available to better meet your needs.http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?id=fh;en-us;offerprophone. If an Administrator of a computer grants the security permissions
required for profiling to a user or group that does not have Administrator
permissions on that computer. This is not even correct English language, what does it means?
Thanks,

Hi Alberto,
You are correct, and the description is not very clear.J
As my understanding, it means that we could run the profiling tools with the Users group when the administrator grants all uses access to the software driver for the profiling tools.
Sincerely,
