VS 2010 Ultimate installation
VS 2010 Ultimate installation
- Usually we face problem while moving from one beta release of VS to another one - especially if you have installed multiple components/SDKs individually. It would require you to uninstall each and every instance of earlier beta copies. But VS 2010 ultimate beta 2 seems to be better.
When I tried the web installer, it prompted me to uninstall beta 1. So removed beta 1 and started beta 2 web installer again. But this failed again. A glance at the log file showed me that it still finds beta 1 presence in my system. But before checking for the presence any other beta 1 components , i restarted my system and then installation started with out any issue. But when it reached VS ultimate beta 2 component(8th one) installation, the process became very slow. Even after spending a whole night, the progress of this part reached only abt 75% and after whenever I check, the transfer rate shows 0 kb/sec. I have better broadband connection and made sure that no other web activity or download is happening simultaneously.
This is the 8th item out of the 33 components. Now I am not sure how many days it will take to complete the installation.
The good thing is that if we restart the installation, the installer will skip all first 7 items(as they are already downloded and/or installed) and will directly comes to this item - but again it starts from 0% for this item unlike any download manager which can resume from where it got stopped.
I am just sharing my experience - if anyone has a solution please share it, else the moderator can make this post as a comment

- Hello GK,
In general I don't recomend attempting installing Beta's on computers that have already had earlier betas...despite this our setup team assures me this is a tested configuration that we know works.
As far as the ISO my apologies about not making it easier to find...going forward all the VS downloads should be easiliy found at:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/vstudio/dd582936.aspx
...good luck with the Download!
(My home comcast account had all the iso's down in under 6 hours)

- Ooops... sometimes I react too early(but hope you will appreciate me for waiting the whole night for the completion of the 8th component I mentioned above with out switching off my system).
Now I got the 8the component downloaded and/or installed. And for the next component, the transfer rate seems to be better and the installation progressing well.
So I feel, its only for the 8th component, taking tooooooo much of time..:)
Actually when I looked for the downloads, I found only the links to the web installer not any ISO and someone posted (somewhere) that VSTS 2010 beta 2 is now available for MSDN subsribers (only).
But now I got the link to ISO as well which is here

- Thank you Charles for the link. But initially I looked at VS product page where even now appears only the web installer links. See here
The installation experience of Beta 2 was very good as compared to previous releases(including vs 2008 betas) - except for the download time I mentioned earlier. My web installer completed download and installation successfully.
And like to mention - the new blue logo/theme looks cool for me...
Kudos!!
