Suggestion about features for the new VSTS 4 DB (data dude).
It would be nice if we could use the tool for analysing schema changes impact throughout the BI workflow.
SQL Data warehouse shema -> SSIS packages -> SSAS Database,SSRS report models
A VSTS solution can contain a project for each one of these.
A change in the model of the data warehouse ofthen results in many cascaded changes in other components. So a tool that could list all the references where a field is used outside the SQL server RDBMS (meaning SSIS, SSAS en SSRS) would be a powerfull development tool. With feater like make a check list of these references that you can check off one by one, when you click on them you jump to that reference for revieuwing the changes that need to be made.
Very powerfull would be if we could keep these references together an tied to the original change in the DB schema as some sort of schema log. That way it can also be used as documenting changes and why some things where changed in other components. (It's all about documenting I know, but we all know how much we love that part).
Who thinks in the same direction here ?

Thank you for the feedback, we are actively working with the SQL BI teams (SSIS, SSRS, SSAS) to make this happen in the next release. It definitely is in line with the long term directions.

Thanks for your feedback, we really appreciate it. We have heard of requests around BI tooling and intregation with our product and we have started talking to those teams in SQL Server about possible directions. For the V1 release we will not have support in place but we are looking long term towards driving towards synergy with BI tooling
