Installing VSS 2005 in Windows 2008 R2 and using existing SSafe database

Question

We are migrating from an existing data center running Windows 2003 to a hosted/cloud facility running Windows 2008 R2. We've been running SourceSafe in our old data center for years without issue. We now need to migrate this existing database to the Windows 2008 server, and while I can install SourceSafe, I cannot get SourceSafe to recognize the existing data or existing users. I've tried following the steps I can find, and tried using the command line utility, but to no avail. BTW, I'm not getting any emails, I just can't figure out how to bring in my existing data. Many of the docs I've seen pertain to setting up the ineternet access and integrating into Visual Studio, neither of which are my issue. 

 

Is there any incompatabilities betweem VSS 2005 and Windows 2008 R2? How can I get this to work?
