Dear All,
I am facing problem with VSS database. Let me first explain the environment. i am using Vista Ultimate SP1. I have installed Visual Studio 2005 and Visual Source Safe 6.0. I have my VSS database in WIN XP SP2. This machine is also installed with Visual Studio 2005 and Visual Source Safe 6.0. Now i was able to connect to VSS database. I had my latest version of code and when i open the solution of the project, it points the local VSS database by default. I browsed for the VSS database at XP machine and located it, selected it. But instead of showing that database in the list, it was empty. I could not proceed further. Now i was not able to work with that database. Anyone Please help me to solve this issue.
Thanks in advance.
With Regards,

Thursday, October 23, 2008 10:07 AMHi Surendar,
I think Vista / Windows XP o/s have no impact on VSS 6.0.
I mean.. Using Vista or XP Operating Systems doesnt change the functionality/features of VSS;
What I understood from ur post is:-
* You have a PC - (XP -Visual Studio 2005 , VSS 6.0) in which VSS Db is installed: In this XP PC, you are able to open .net solution from Source Control and get the latest version of code from VSS.
* You have another system (Vista - Visual Studio 2005 , VSS 6.0) : You have opened vss and browsed and selected the db located in XP PC; But, you are facing problem here i.e. not able to find the opened db in list..
Is the above correct?
Few questions:-
1. Are u trying to open .net solution from Source Control (VSS db) in both systems ?
2. Have u tried to open VSS Client in both systems? If so, what happened?
3. Are you using same user credentials or different user credentials while accessing the vss in both systems?

Friday, October 24, 2008 7:39 AMHi Surendar,
Do you mean when you open the solution that was bound to SourceSafe on the Vista machine, the database is not in the available databases list?
If so, you can click the Add button in the Open SourceSafe Database dialog box, in the Add SourceSafe Database wizard, choose to Connect to an existing database and add the database to the list.
Thanks.
You can also post the questions on SourceSafe here. I will try my best to help you.
Thanks.

What you have understood is right.
Answers for your question
1. Yes
2. I have tried in both systems from VSS client. But when i open it from solution file in Vista, i was asked to map the VSS database and could not do so. But in xp machine, i was able to do it.
I have saw your post just now.
Thanks

Try This
- Go to the folder where the vss database is stored and in its properties, goto security tab and provide full access rights to the user You are using to log on to vista.
