AnswerDeleted Visual Studio registry keys, any way to recover them?

    Hey guys,

I installed Visual C# Express Edition the other day, I don't know why, and then I uninstalled it again a couple days ago. Now, since I use Revo Uninstaller, which searches for registry keys and prompts me if I want to delete them, I accidently deleted my Visual Studio registry keys for file opening and such :(

Is there any way to recover them? I tried running my Visual Studio installer, but it gives me an error saying "Installation failed, setup components could not be loaded, cancelling setup" when I want to try to repair Visual Studio. (I thought that might work) It worked fine when I installed it the first time.

The exact error: "Error 32003. File 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\Tools\vsvars32.bat' could not be opened for write" it's weird because I'm able to open and run it perfectly. Says the same thing with 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\bin\x86_amd64\vcvarsx86_amd64.bat'

Any ideas? Any help will be appreciated.

    Hello,

As I know there are no ways to recover the application uninstalled by Revo Uninstaller. Based on your description, you uninstall Express Edition with Revo Uninstaller and now you want to reinstall it and the error happens. You may first refer to this post to see if your issue could be fixed.

If not, could you please offer more detailed information about your issue, like what is your OS? what is the editon of your visual studio? 2005 or 2008? Try following the steps below:

If your OS is Vista or later, follow the two setps shown below and try reinstalling to see if the issue is fixed.

    1. Verify that if you have turned on the feature of .NET Framework.
(Control Panel - Programs and Features - Turn Windows features on or off - Verify that the box next to Microsoft .NET Framework has been checked)
    2. Use Verification Tool to verify .Net Framework has been installed well on your OS. If .Net Framework cannot be verified on your computer, you can try to follow the steps mentioned in this blog to repair the .NET Framework.

If the installation still fails, I think we need to collect the logs for further troubleshooting. After collecting logs, you may upload vslogs.cab file to SkyDrive and post the link back here.

The steps to collect the log:
    - Try to clean your "%temp%" folder (Start Menu >> Run >> Type "%temp%")
    - Install Visual Studio
    - Collect the logs from "%temp%" folder
       Collect tool: http://blogs.msdn.com/heaths/archive/2008/05/09/visual-studio-and-net-log-collection-utility.aspx
    - Upload vslogs.cab file to SkyDrive and post the link back here
