Problems Installing Visual Studio 2008 Professional (x86 and x64 WoW) on Windows 7 x64

Hi,

I built a new computer last week and decided to put Windows 7 x64 on it.  I have already verified all the drivers are up-to-date and support Windows 7 x64.  I am now trying to install Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition (x86 and x64 WoW) and I have not been able to successfully get it to completely install.

Some background: I downloaded the Visual Studio ISO from MSDNAA E-Academy.  I burned it to a DVD and I also have tried to mount it using MagicISO.

After not even being able to get the installation window to open, I changed the compatibility to Windows Vista SP1 and made sure to check the Run as Administrator option.  I now can get the installation to start, but it fails in two different locations. 

Sometimes it will fail when installing the Web Authoring Component.  If it fails here I usually get a "Suite Integration Toolkit Executable has stopped working" error. 

At one point I was able to get that to install (I found some instructions to manually install) but then I run into problems at the next part installing Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition - ENU.  When it fails here I get "Invalid Digital Signature" errors (log is pasted below).  Everytime I install the cab file that fails changes (had it fail on cab2, cab3, cab5, cab9, cab49 ... etc).

Any help would be appreciated.

It seems to me from the first statement in the error log that your download / DVD is corrupt. Suggest you try to re-download and/or burn a new DVD. Instead of burning it, I suggest you use some tool (several are widely available) where you can mount ISO images as virtual drives.

[10/30/09,07:54:07] Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition - ENU: [2] ERROR:Error 1330.A file that is required cannot be installed because the cabinet file c:\users\sheik\software\visual 2008\cab5.cab has an invalid digital signature.  This may indicate that the cabinet file is corrupt.

This type of issue typically means that either your media is corrupted or the connection between your media and your local machine was flaky. The common workaround is to redownload the media and copy the setup locally on the hard drive and then run the installation. This fixes nearly all of the issues of this type.

Thank you for your help.

However, I have downloaded the software twice now.  I burned two different downloads to DVD and I used them in MagicISO.  Everytime I try to install it fails at some cab file. 

I have a feeling this is more related to the Web Authoring Component, as it has failed during the installation of that component as well.  Anyone else have any tips?

Hello,

For further troubleshooting, follow the below steops:

1. Verify that if you have turned on the feature of .NET Framework.
    (Control Panel - Programs and Features - Turn Windows features on or off - Verify that the box next to Microsoft .NET Framework has been checked)

2. Use Verification Tool to verify .Net Framework has been installed well on your OS. If .Net Framework cannot be verified on your computer, you can try to follow the steps mentioned in this blog to repair the .NET Framework.

If the installation still fails, I think we need to collect the whole logs for further troubleshooting. After collecting logs, you may upload vslogs.cab file to SkyDrive and post the link back here.

The steps to collect the log:
- Try to clean your "%temp%" folder (Start Menu >> Run >> Type "%temp%")
- Install VS2008
- Collect the logs from "%temp%" folder

- Upload vslogs.cab file to SkyDrive and post the link back here
