I'm having trouble installing Visual C++ 2010 Express Beta 2 on a Windows 7 Home Premium system. The setup gets to "Installation Progress," but doesn't start installing the first item in the list, "Microsoft Application Error Reporting." I checked an hour later, and nothing had changed. I also tried Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2, in that case the Setup exits saying it could not install Eror Reporting.

For both installs, the log had this entry:

Microsoft Application Error Reporting: File failed validation: c:...\vc_web\.\wcu\watson\dw20shared.msi; error = 0x80091007

EDIT: FIXED. I saw another post recommending taking ownership of the Windows directory in case of install problems. So I ran "takeown /r %windir%", and after it completed, I was able to install OK.  Why should I have to do this, since I have an Admin-level account?

    Hi Zogg,

I am moving this thread from Base "Visual Studio Setup and Installation" forum to the "Visual Studio 2010 Setup and Installation" forum, since the issue is related to VS2010 installation. There are more VS2010 experts in the "Visual Studio 2010 Setup and Installation" forum.

    Thanks
