I keep getting this error every time I attempt to install Visual Studio 11 Beta (regardless of edition; Ultimate/Premium/Professional).
Here's a screenshot of the error. Sorry if the image is too big, I'm using a 50" TV (default to 1920x1080)I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit) if that helps.

Friday, March 09, 2012 6:27 PMHi PhoeniX999R, how are you installing VS 11 Beta? Via the web installer or ISO image file?

I had tried installing through both methods (Web Installer and ISO); they both returned the same error.
I had installed the "Layout" package, not sure what that is, but it installed perfectly. But Visual Studio, itself, hasn't even allowed itself to begin.

Hi PhoeniX999R, could you please try re-installing VS 11 from the ISO image file?
Please mount it to a virtual drive, and after that, please browse the ISO's contents, right-click vs_ultimate.exe, and after that click "Run as administrator". Do you still get that error even after doing that?

Hi PhoeniX999R,
Welcome to the MSDN forum.
It seems that your error is access error which means you do not have full permission to install this product.
So please check that if your user account has Admin privilege. (You must run as a Admin user account to get enough access permission) Then please make sure you have right clicked your setup with “run as administrator” option.
Then you will be able to access this product.
Best regards,

@systemx and @Barry Wang
I had already tried running as administrator multiple times before. I still had encountered the error.
I had just tried installing Visual Studio 11 Beta on another computer (recently bought, nothing new installed) and it installed flawlessly.- Edited by PhoeniX999R Monday, March 12, 2012 8:15 PM

Tuesday, March 13, 2012 3:20 AMModeratorHi PhoeniX999R,
I’m thinking of some possible reasons.
1.Have you disabled AV software when installing on this computer?
2.Could you please try these steps and show us some screenshots:
Control Panel>>System and Security>>Administrative Tools>>Computer Management>>
Local Users and Groups>>Users>> (Your account)>>right click and choose properties>>
Show us the “Member of “screenshot. I guess maybe your user group is just “Users”
3.Please right click your setup and choose properties, then please open security and show us the screenshot. Maybe we will get more information of this issue.
Best regards,
Barry Wang [MSFT]

Here's an image of the setup's security properties.
Here's an image of the only person registered on the computer, as an administrator.

Well I gave up on the issue and decided to wipe out my 2TB of data and installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview.
Visual Studio 11 is installing perfecting (as I type this).I still want to figure out what the problem is, for other users, as best as I can.
Loving Windows 8 by the way.

Hi PhoneniX999R,
Another possible reason is that you have already installed something about VS11. Or maybe some other software are influencing the installation. Anyway, glad to here that you can use VS11 perfectly.

Monday, April 16, 2012 9:15 AMI had the same problem while installing VS11 beta on a Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard. I was connected via RPD session, web installer setup was started from desktop when the error occured. After copying the web installer executable to C: drive it worked perfectly.

Check to see if your anti virus is blocking it. I had the same issue and found that a feature of mcAfee is terminating the setup.

I had the same issue with the RC and solved it by actually logging into the administrator account rather than using either Run as Administrator or just running it from my account, which is an admin as well. I also disabled AV. Not sure which fixed it, might have been both, but it solved the problem.

I'm having the same issue. I do not want to install it on another box I want to install it on this one which currently runs VS 2010 fine. I'm installing from the ISO which I burned onto a DVD.
I also tried clearing out %temp%.
I've created a video of the process you can view here: http://tinymarkbucket.s3.amazonaws.com/vs2012install.wmv
Sorry for the annoying beep tones, you should probably just mute the sound.
Please advise.

I had the same problem when installing Visual Studio 2012 Update 1. " Setup Engine. Access is Denied"
Also, when trying to install from windows update I got the error code 80044000 (which no body seem to now anything about this code)
Turning McAfee VirusScan off solved the problem.
