Visual Studio 2008 crashes Windows 7
Hi,
I have just installed Windows 7 RTM and Visual Studio 2008. There is a problem a have detected yesterday. When I am editing a C# class, Windows 7 freezes and I have to boot the machine to return.
I was just editing a C# class, nothing special.
Do you know if there is any known issue about this ???
By the way I have installed Visual Studio 2008 Team and SP1, I have Office Ultime 2007 and Windows 7 Ultimate x64.
Thanks in advance- Changed TypeFigo FeiMSFT, ModeratorWednesday, November 18, 2009 2:24 AM

- Hi mbaffa
Some clarifications for the case
Can you find any Visual Studio relevant information in the event viewer? Run >'eventvwr'
How often does it happen, does it happen every time you edit a specific file or any file?
Thanks.

As soon as I can access the machine I will run eventviewer. To make it more clear let me give you a brief description.
I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 without any problem. Before installing the Visual Studio 2008 SP1 I had to install an update of Office 2007 development tool. After that everything worked ok.
But there are some moments, without any reason, that mouse and keyboard does not work, they simply disappear and they were not installed. The only way to return is to boot, pressing the reset button. It occured two times and it is not deterministic, there are sometimes that I can work without any problem. Up to now I could not find a pattern.
I will uninstall VS 2008 and SP1, and reinstall it today. If it does not work I will let you know and ask for your help.
Let me try it first.
Thanks- Hi mbaffa
Would you mind telling me the status of the problem?
As for mouse and keyboard problem, it is more likely to be driver issue but not Visual Studio installation, can you please check out the drivers of the hardware again?
Thanks!

Welcome to the All-In-One Code Framework! If you have any feedback, please tell us. - Hi Figo,
My mouse and keyboard are Microsoft, this can be a driver problem, but I do not know.
I have uninstalled SP1 and Visual Studio 2008 and reinstalled it. Excuse if I could not post back before but I was trying to use the VS to check if the problem occured again.
After the new installation, for two or three days, I had no problem. It seemed that it was working OK. But this weekend the machine began to freeze again. I have not installed any other program. And, as I told you, the problem occurs at any moment, there is no deterministic situation.
I know that with my description it is very difficult to find the problem, but there is nothing remarkable happening. The problem occures when I am just editing classes, compiling the solution and it occured one time when I was launching a new instance of Visual Studio.
I am using ScriptSharp to genereate my Javascript classes. I have not used this tool in Vista, and maybe, this can be the problem. I really do not know.
I will buy a new mouse and keyboard, the right button of the mouse is, since Vista was installed, presenting some problems. I do not beleive that this could be the problem, but I will try.
If you have any known issue about this, please, let know.
Thanks, - Thanks for your response, mbaffa.
As far as I know, some of the Microsoft Wireless Laser Mice users have complaint some problems with Visual Studio intellisense in Vista before, I'm not sure your case is relevant or not, but to check it out should be helpful anyway.

Welcome to the All-In-One Code Framework! If you have any feedback, please tell us. Hi Figo,
My mouse is a Microsoft Optical USB.
I was thinking that it could be a problem of my GeForce driver for Windows 7. I will check in the NVidia site and look for updated drivers and see if this can solve the problem.
I will let you know.
Thanks- Hi Figo,
Well I beleive I have discovered the problem, but not the solution.
My desktop has an Intel DG33Bu board, with 8 GB of RAM, with a simple GEForce 7300 (128 MB). I have downloaded the drivers for Windows 7 64x from NVidia and Intel. Installed the NVidia and the lastest Chipset from Intel and the problem still continues.
When I use the classic theme I can use windows more time before it crashes. So I beleive that this is a Video driver problem. I do not know what todo because the driver was downloaded from NVidia and it it the latest n for Windows 7 64x.
I wil try to disable the GEForce and use my On Board Video Card. Let's see what happens. - Hi mbaffa
What about your problem now?
Thanks.
