- Hello,
[11/02/09,20:02:18] Microsoft Document Explorer 2008: [2] c:\softwares\vb\visual_studio_2008_professinal\setup\..\wcu\dexplore\dexplore.exe could not be unpackaged because it is not a cabinet.
This seems to be the root cause. The installtion files is most probably corrupted during downloading or unpackaging, where do you get the installaiton files? If you download it, try using a download manager to download it again and reinstall.

Hello,
As I know, Express Edition and Professional Edition could work side by side.
Based on your description, follow the below steps to see if the issue still exists:
1. You may utilize the tool mentioned in this article to uninstall all components installed with visual studio 2008 products.2. If your OS is vista or later, check whether you have turned on the windows feature of .NET Framework, if not, check the box and click ok. (Please go to Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Turn Windows features on or off -> Check the box next to Microsoft .NET Framework). Then use Verification Tool to verify .Net Framework. If .Net Framework cannot be verified on your computer, you can try to follow the steps mentioned in the following blog to repair them. See: http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2007/03/26/how-to-repair-the-net-framework-2-0-and-3-0-on-windows-vista.aspx
3. Reinstall Visual Studio 2008 Professional.
If the installation still fails, I think we need to collect the logs for further troubleshooting. After collecting logs, you may upload vslogs.cab file to SkyDrive and post the link back here.
The steps to collect the log:
- Try to clean your "%temp%" folder (Start Menu >> Run >> Type "%temp%")
- Install Visual Studio 2008 Professional
- Collect the logs from "%temp%" folder
Collect tool: http://blogs.msdn.com/heaths/archive/2008/05/09/visual-studio-and-net-log-collection-utility.aspx
- Upload vslogs.cab file to SkyDrive and post the link back here

http://cid-13557bcf8b25ff4b.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/.Public - Hello,
Sorry for the delay, we just have a weekend before. As I can see from the log file:
[10/31/09,14:29:37] DepCheck: gencomp320
[10/31/09,14:29:37] DepCheck_Result: 1
[10/31/09,14:29:37] Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition - ENU: Install(): bAttemptInstall: 0
[10/31/09,14:29:37] Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition - ENU: Install(): Not attempting to call MsiInstallProduct()!!!! Baseline not met!
[10/31/09,14:29:37] Setup.exe: AddGlobalCustomProperty
[10/31/09,14:29:37] Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition - ENU: CRootComponent::Install(): Setup Failed; MSIInstallProduct return value either ERROR_INSTALL_FAILURE or default.
This log snippet indicates that setup is not going to try to install the main VS product because it has detected that a prerequisite package has not been correctly installed. The package that is not correctly installed is represented by gencomp320, which is described in the file baseline.dat in the Setup subdirectory on a VS installation disc. Looking in that file, you can see that gencomp320 represents the Microsoft Web Designer Tools package.
you can use the following steps to locate and remove the Microsoft Web Designer Tools package:
1. Go to the Add/Remove Programs control panel by clicking on the Start menu, choosing Run, typing appwiz.cpl and clicking OK
2. Locate the item named Microsoft Visual Studio Web Authoring Component and choose to uninstall it
3. Try to run VS 2008 setup again
