    I have a working Windows 8 install on my MacBook Pro Mid 2009.  Everything seems to work fine (even without any Boot Camp drivers).  Sound works (after installing Realtek drivers), Display 1920 x 1200, I'm able to install WinRT apps and apps seem to work fine.

    But Visual Studio 2012 RC will NOT install.  I've tried both the Web Install and the ISO "Visual Studio Ultimate 2012 RC (x86)" (1537MB) from MSDN downloads.  I've even tried a Refresh (which is pretty darn cool BTW!) and a reinstall without luck.

    Each time I get one of two issues:

    Issue 1) Freeze - and I have to reboot

    Issue 2)

    Freeze and sad face blue screen few seconds after:

    :(

    Your P

    (Note how the text truncates after the "P", I've also had it say "Your" without the P, I have never received text longer than "Your P" on the BSoD.)

    Example freeze location:

      "Acquiring: <blank>" 100% bar

      "Applying: Microsoft Visual Studio Professional 2012 RC" ~ 2% bar

    Example BSoD location:

      Microsoft Expression Blend (Not 100% sure of the text, but it was installing blend, but it's done the BSoD in various other locations as well)

    I did perform a Win8 memory test, and the event log says not errors were found.

    Help! I need to install Win8 RP & VS 2012 RC. I can reformat and redo again if there is another ISO I should try.  I known last year there used to be one install which did both Win8 & VS.  Is there a similar version of this for RP/RC?

    Hi Tolga,

    I have experienced the same problem that you are having, then I tried to install Visual Studio Ultimate version from this link http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29917. Fortunately, It freezes again.

    Then I tried to run the express version from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/apps/br229516 one more time, and everything worked out just fine. I don't know exactly what happened, but I am running Windows 8 PR and VS Express 2012 on Bootcamp now.

    Oh,, my MacBook pro is mid 2009 as well. Good luck.

    Hello Tolga,

    Thanks for your post.

    Please finish the steps below to see if you can install VS2012 RC successfully:

    • Turn off your anti-virus/antispyware software during installation;
    • Install the latest Windows updates from the Windows Update site: http://update.microsoft.com;
    • Complete or dismiss Windows Update before installation. (And don't forget to turn it on later);
    • Clean your %temp% folder (Start Menu >> Run >> Type "%temp% >> OK);
    • Then run the setup with Administrator privilege: right-click the installer -> Run as administrator.

    If the installation still failed, please collect the installation log files from "%temp%" folder with the Log Collection Tool: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/heaths/archive/2008/05/09/visual-studio-and-net-log-collection-utility.aspx   And then share me the vslogs.cab file in the %temp% folder. You can share upload it to the SkyDrive site.

    Thanks.

    @ Josh, I would like to know that you also get the same issue on the MacBook Pro Mid 2009 machine?

    @ Tolga, do you get your issue resolved? And does Siratr's solution work for you? If you still get the same issue, please kindly offer me more information, and share me the vslogs.cab in the "%temp%" folder.

    Thanks.

    Okay, here is what I did:

    * Uninstalled previous instance of Visual Studio Installation (which never completed, but kept trying to restart the installation for at every reboot).  I got the message stating it was uninstalled successfully, but froze on that screen (everything including the mouse and touch pad).

    * Rebooted machine

    * I turned off defender (only anti-virus I known that was installed)

    * Performed latest windows updates (download the cert revoke update, plus 2 others + reboot)

    * Turned off windows updates (by setting updates to never)

    * Deleted everything in %temp% except winstore which was in use

    * Ran as Administrator the setup from ISO VS2012_RC_ULT_ENU

    * Installation started and froze (not :( screen this time) at installing Visual Studio 2010 Prerequisites

    * Rebooted machine

    * Cancelled the installation which tried to restart installation at bootup

    * Ran collect.exe and placed %temp%\vslogs.cab here:

    https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=7B1358C8F21416C!1147&authkey=!ADE3-nkz7HqvOjc

    I apologize for the delay in getting this to you. I was out of town (which was one of the reasons I was trying to setup this machine for, but had to give up for the time being)

    Also I should add that I tried the install with NO boot camp drivers and with boot camp drivers from the original DVD my mac shipped with, but had to use compatibility mode.  Either way same issue.

    I tried Siratr's recommendation and attempted to install the Express version (good bit different from Ultimate, but definitely worth the try!) and it got a lot further in progress percentage, but then hung on Microsoft Visual C++ Core Libraries 2012 installation.

    Well the problem may not be Visual Studio.  I tried uninstalling visual studio and been trying to use my system for various other tasks and I do have stability issues with Windows 8.  I've had three lockups just today.  Two times during playing cut-the-rope.

    Windows 7 worked perfectly on this same Mac Book Pro and I never (okay, maybe once in a blue moon) had issues with lockups or BSoD

    I have the same issue as above.  Mid-2008 MacBook Pro.  Fresh Bootcamp install of Win 8 RP.  The issue occurs with and without bootcamp drivers installed.

    An item to note... Win 8 does not freeze until and unless I try to install VS 2012.  It always fails while trying to install, freezing everything.  Once I reboot, the system freezes in the same manner after 5-10 min, regardless of what I do, and even after the failed VS 2012 installation is removed.  It seems that theis failure corrupts something in the Win 8 install and leaves the system with a chronic instability.

    Hello,

    FYI  I had the same problem with Visual Studio 2012 RTM and Windows 8 Pro RTM. It froze while trying to install VS2012, although it also froze once another time.

    I disabled dynamic ticks as mentioned elsewhere and the hangs stopped. I was able to successfully install VS2012 and haven't had any problems since.

    I ran this command in: bcdedit /set disabledynamictick yes

    I got it from this MS support article - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2727113.

    I have an early 2010 Macbook Pro with Intell Core 2 Duo P8700.

    hi,

    got the same problem on a macbook 13" mid 2010 (core2duo) with windows 8 from dreamspark and visual studio 2012 ultimate testversion iso image from the VS website.

    yesterday  it hung even more than 10 times always while installing foundation class libraries. after each hard restart of the system, the installer comes up again and i did repair function. always hangs on the "Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Microsoft Foundation Class Libraries".

    The tip from @Stusta with: bcdedit /set disabledynamictick yes seems to be working for me too :)

    thanx for that! :)

    cheers,
