"An error occurred during this operation". when attempting to print via asp.net report viewer control on IE8

SQL Server 2005 SP3 CU4 (9.00.4226.00)

report viewer redistributable 2005 SP1

any IE8 browser in "protected mode"

(issue also reproduced on SQL Server 2008 with latest SP/CU)

when clicking the print button we expect to get the print dialog window, instead we get a popup with the message "An error occurred during this operation". not a very descriptive message but we found that it was caused by "Protected Mode" being enabled.
having end users configure trusted site settings or modify their security settings is not an acceptable solution for our client base.

see also this thread for similar issue with IE7 that was reportedly resolved by SQL SP.

Printing from RDLC report to Dot Matrix Printer using Generic/Text only printer driver

Hi,

I am trying to print a RDLC report to a dot matrix printer using Generic/Text only printer driver in windows xp. But the problem is that, I am not getting the proper output as I am able to see in the preview of the report. In the preview the report the output is perfect. But when I print to the printer, some of the fields are shrinked and not displayed completely. When I increase the width of the coloumn in the table, its printing only some columns as it does not fit. So I hope someone can help me to sort out this issue.

We have an application where one of the functions is to print invoices on preformatted sheets of paper (size A4). This is done using a report (.rdlc file) in Visual Studio 2008. The report is formatted like this: a page header is printed on top of the page, then a fixed size section with company name and address and other information. Next comes a variable sized section with orderlines. The number of lines in this section is restricted to a maximum of 12 lines. Below this variable section is a fixed size section that maps the fields of the preprinted invoice form.
This has worked well for several years (first with VS2005 and now with VS2008).
A couple of months ago, a couple of our customers got a newly build of our application and started having trouble that the last (and fixed size) section of the invoice was placed too high or too low compared to the fields of the preprinted sheets. No changes was made to our application regarding invoice printing. Later several other of our customers have started experiencing the same problem - without having a new version of our application, that is, they are still using the "old" version.
The only explanation I can find for the problem is updates implemented by Windows Update (probably updates to .NET Framework or Report Viewer/Writer).
Can you tell me whether there are any updates that may have caused the problems? Are there anybody else experiencing this?

I duplicate the report, as you can see. Also, my report display one record per page (I set that way).
I'd want that the duplicated part show the next record, like this:

I am new to visual Studio 2008
I have created a dataSet as a class in my project.
My table has three colums and 72 rows. Now the report is loaded in controls and a lengthy awkward looking report is generated.

I need to split this 72 rows into 18 rows and 4 sets and show siode by side as in news paper colums.
Hope I am clear.

I have SQL Server 2008 and Visual Studio .NET 2008 installed and I'm trying to access some SSRS 2008 Reports by Webservice through the ReportViewer-Control 9.0 in an ASP.NET App in VS 2008. But I'm getting an error:

"# The version of the report server web service definition (WSDL) is either not valid or unrecognized. The server is not a compatible version.
* System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: Server did not recognize the value of HTTP Header 'SOAPAction':

Maybe the error is because the following issue ?:

MSDN says about ReportViewer in VS 2008: "The ReportViewer controls require information that is only exposed through the SQL Server 2005 SOAP execution endpoint."
And www.gotreportviewer.com says about Report Viewer in VS 2008: "In remote mode the ReportViewer control can only view reports hosted on a SQL Server 2005 Report Server".

Is there no update for using ReportViewer in VS 2008 in remote mode together with Reporting Services Server 2008 ?

Hi. i was Trying To read report and i got this error through reportviewer

I'm No sure of wats wrong. I tried Searching the net it seems to be the Dataset Prob. But im positive Dataset is working as im using VWD dataset to bind data. even had a preview Which get the data i want. So it means its working. Which then shows that its Reportviewer thats gibing me this error.

Microsoft Report Parameter based on Database Query to be nullable..

In generating a Microsoft Report I'm trying to define a series of Report Parameters, used to gather data.

I want to be able to allow the user to enter 8 different "tags" that I can get a list of from a dataset, which is called "ChillerTags".

So, in the ReportParameters dialog I wan to set the "Avaliable values:" section to from query and set it to the ChillerTags dataset.

Now here's my problem.. I set under the "Properties" section I've checked the "Allow null value", but since this parameter's available values are based on a query it doesn't give me a null check box in the reports form, and forces the user to select a tag.

I would like the user to be able to select 1-8 tags without being forced to select any more than one. Using the Multi-value option doesn't work for me because order and a future boolean value will be important for me.

Any ideas, or did I just confuse anyone reading this..

I need to know how can I get the return values when showing the Print Dialog,
I have to disable print button if the user has send the report to the printer, otherwise
if the user press the cancel button the print button will be enable.

I have manage to use a custom button adding the following attribute:

How to Edit Non-Query Report Parameter to include All Possibe Values

Hello,

I'm building a report to show Account names that are located in certain US states, for example CA, NY, NE, etc.

However when inputting Accounts into the database, our users have been very inconsistent. Sometimes they put in 'CA' or 'California' or 'Cali'. That gives me problems when creating the Non-Query Report Parameter. Please see the picture below:

For parameter label "CA", I tried to write Value expression ="CA" OR "California" OR "Cali". However, when executing the report, the parameter States will be grayed out like the picture below:

Second, I tried to write Value "CA" OR "California" OR "Cali" (without the expression), and of course it's not returning any value.

Can anyone please help me in this problem? Is there a way to overcome this issue?

Toolbox does not display most of the controls

This is even after "Rest Toolbox", "Reset all settings", and "Import selected environment settings". I have also uninstalled and reinstalled three times.

The only way it all shows up is if I do a "Show All"

Even then the controls that appear on a group are still greyed out and not selectable. Interestingly enough, when you go to "Choose Items" a given control can show up in the list multiple times. The Textbox control shows up multiple time and still doesn't show up in the list even though one was selected.

I'm developing sites using VB 2008, I'm not an advanced programmer and I want to be able to include search field for viewers to search the sites and get the results in a page with all links result or page. I don't know how to do it and I got coffee cup program that can do this programming job, but it only accept english input and I want arabic. Therefore, is this has to be done throuhgt SQL database or crystal report or what? What would be the easiest and best way to program this with VB 2008 and the steps for doing that.

ERROR: subreport could not be shown

My main report has a subreport that has a table in it with an associated dataset. When I run the report, the main data displays, but the area that is supposed to show the subreport shows "subreport could not be shown". If I remove the table and dataset from the subreport, the headings will display. But as soon as I add the table and dataset back I get the error. I am setting the dataset for the main report and subreport before running the report. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

"Access is denied" ReportViewer frame name colliding with another site's window.open()

I'm showing an RDLC in a ReportViewer. As one of its child controls, the ReportViewer automatically creates a frame with the name & id of "report".

There is another site (not under my control) that opens a page using the javascript window.open('','report');

Whenever the report viewer is open, any attempts to use this other site (in another tab of the browser) fail with an "Access is Denied" javascript error.

I assume this is because that site is trying to open a window with a name that is already in use on the ReportViewer page.

My question is - how can I avoid this and allow the 2nd site to open a page even when someone is viewing a report in a ReportViewer control? I cannot find any place in the ReportViewer parameters where I can override this name to be something other than "report".

Programmatically Set ReportViewer Page Size

After spending hours with the ReportViewer (VS Standard 2008) and the forums it seems that there is no way to programmatically change a report's default page size and margins. Suppose the program will be used worldwide. Is the only solution for the user to have to reselect the paper size, orientation and margins every time they want to print a report if those items differ from the default? There has to be a way to do this. I see some talk about a fix. Has anything been done? Alternatively, is there another option to ReportViewer besides writing a custom report?

The issue I have is all the parameters are from combo boxes.
The data is coming from an sql database.
The user can select a value from a combo box, if the user wants all values to be displayed from a certain
combo box they select "All Values" from the list.

When the report is run I only get 10 records. There are 30 in the database. After analyising the data I found that
fields in the database that have a null value are not being displayed. The wilcard character doesn't pick out null
fields.
Is there a way to do this?

out of memory error in displaying reports

I am getting an out of memory error when rendering a report using Report Viewer. The error is as follows:

An error occurred during local report processing
An error occured during rendering of the report
Out of memory

I am using VS 2008. There IS an image on the report.

Is there a setting I need to change or code I need to add to VS2008 to make this work?

compare fields between two objctdatasource in a report

I have a report that has two objectdatasource ObjectDataSource1 back the result of a storage procedure in sql2005 database, while objectdatasource2 back the result of a query in oracle database.

I want to compare the field id_emp the ObjectDataSource1 with the field ent_id of objectdatasource2.

Since the field of the report click on words in fields (ObjectDataSource1) and shows me the fields of storage. more for me to have some reference to the fields of objectdatasource2 have to click the option dataset and he brings the fields of objectdatasource2 more with aggregate values ie all fields such as: sum (int_id)

If I delete the sum gives error.

My doubt is how can I compare two fields from two different objectdatasource

Hello,

I have a licensed version of Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005. I'm new to C# but not necessarily new to object-oriented programming. My first assignment is to use the ReportViewer to allow company users to run remote reports on our webserver.

My C# code won't compile due to the problem of missing the Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms component. Where is this component supposed to come from?

I've been going round and round in the doc for several days now. Any hints or suggestions would be appreciated. This is very similar to a problem posted by "Jonas" and answered by Albert Yen on 15 Nov 2006. Albert's answer *almost* made sense to me--except for the fact he asked if Jonas was building a: "web site project or a web application project?" That's a distinction that evidently escapes me as well.

The ReportViewer was extracted and installed on our web server, so I believe that the problem is merely a missing module/assembly (whatever you call it) on my Windows XP machine.

Sorry for the neophyte aspect of this. Have been looking on forums, but haven't seen the answer yet. My reference books make no mention of the ReportViewer whatsoever.

Show/Hide parts of a report

Hi.
I have a client report (*.rdlc) showing data from a few tables in as many list controls. This works OK. I also have headings in my report (like: 'Data From Table A', ...), which I place outside the list controls. If a certain table does not have any rows, the corresponding list control is not shown. In this case, I also do not want to display the corresponding heading. My question is: can I hide the heading? Is there a report event that I can use for this and exactly how would I do this?

saved shared data source credentials lost after restart

I recently installed Service Pack 3 for SQL Server 2005, and now my saved credentials for my shared data sources in my Reporting Services project are gone every time I restart my computer. I have to enter the specific User Name and Password into the Credentials tab every day for each shared data source. This problem never occurred before I installed SQL Server 2005 SP3, and now my co-workers are afraid to install it on their machines. The server already has SP3 installed. What do I need to do to fix this problem?

On my windows form, I have a report viewer control and a combo box to select criteria to show the reports. I designed two reports(.rdlc files). I added the report viewer control and from the report viewer tasks selected the first report. Image and UNC path

I am having an issue with showing an image in an RDLC report in my Windows VB.Net 2008 application.

I reviewed this post: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlreportingservices/thread/f28ec1db-0cd4-4b24-8c3b-1c75fec03167/, but this does not solve my problem (or so I think).

I have the full path to the photo stored in my database table (ie. \\server\sharename\image1.jpg). The path is using a UNC path. When I run my report on various test systems, the report displays the images perfectly.

When my application is installed at my clients office, the reports all show a red X in place of the image. All users have access to the UNC share. They are able to read, write, modify, and delete files from this share through my application but the reports will not show the image. There is no report server, and all reports are RDLC reports. I have .LocalReport.EnableExternalImages = True.

I do not understand why the Report will not show the images at my client's office when everything works fine in my office.

Does report viewer store a cache anywhere on the local system and is unable to read from the cache due to security permissions? Is there another account that is invoked when using the ReportViewer Control that would need access to this share? I am at a loss as to why this does not work.

Any help would very much be appreciated.

Running RDLC Results in "Operation May Destabilize the Runtime"

This is the sum total of the message that is displayed when attempting to generate a report:

Failed to load expression host assembly. Details: Operation could destabilize the runtime.

I have no idea which assembly it is referring to, nor where it goes. It might not even be a RDLC error. There doesn't seem to be any unambiguous guidance on what causes this error.

I wish I had more to go on here. Anybody have anything?

RDLC Won't Render in Internet Explorer, But Does in Other Browsers

Developing in VS2008, with .Net 3.5, C#, WebApplicationProject.

To Reproduce:

1. When calling a RDLC using Internet Explorer 8 (either in or out of compatibility mode), the report shell is present, but there is no data visible within the frame. Also, there are no page numbers that would imply that data is being received by the report.

2. When calling the same RDLC using Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. I get the proper data.

3. When in IE, if I select to export (either to Excel or to PDF), I get the proper data.

Steps:

I've tried to eliminate any kind of CSS problem by putting the control on a completely blank page.
All required dll's are present on the server in question.

Update: This seems to be related to a security problem. Outside of the local domain, the RDLC renders properly. This is a very old app that we are modifying that is using forms authentication. Don't know how to solve the problem yet, but I know where to start looking.

RDL/RDLC Programatically insert image at runtime. Image shows in design but not in report viewer

Hi,

My requirements are to create a dynamic header image that is generated at the moment of running the report.

I have managed to do this with a comination of XMLDocument, creating images converting the images to base64, inserting them in the XML.

Everything works to a point. In the rdlc file that I generate with the embedded image, if I view this in VS2008, I can see the new image. The XML renders fine.

In the report viewer however I get a blank image. The header adjusts to the correct size, and everything appears to work. Except for the image.

Enable external images is true just for testing. Makes no difference. I have also tried using an external image but to no avail. Same behaviour.

Any ideas?

RDLC Data Sources crashes VS

I have a bunch of rdlc reports that were originally created in VS 2005. When I try to design them in VS 2008 and click on Reports> Data Sources, the IDE thinks for a few seconds and then crashes. I've tried reinstalling Visual Studio. No luck. I've tried manually editing the data sources in the xml, but it never seems to work correctly. I'm using VS2008, SP1.

Send Report directly to a printer from Report Viewer WITHOUT Print Dialog

Hello, everyone!

I'm attempting to find a way to automatically generate SRS reports in VB .NET and then send those generated reports directly to the printer.

Now I can call ReportViewer and generate reports, site unseen. I can even save those as a PDF if I want.

What I CAN NOT do is send them to a network printer. Does anyone know how this can be done?

ReportViewer Export - Is there a way to enable the user to Open, Save or Cancel vs. just Save?

We are using the ReportViewer in our VB.NET 2005 app to generate an SSRS report.

In SSRS Report Manager. when Export is selected, a window pops up prompting to Open, Save or Cancel.
If they open, the report is open in the format selected. The user then has the ability to Email from the
format option (Excel, PDF, etc.).

In ReportViewer, when exporting, the only option is to save. Is there a way to have the ReportViewer
prompt to Open the file in the the app of this selected format and the user can then email from within
that app?

I am looking for any runtime report designer which supports right to left text. Recently i used XtraReport by devexpress but its not working with arabic language (rtl). If anybody familiar with any other runtime end user report designer plz share that. I am using VS2008 + sqlserver 2005/2008 + visiual basic.

Report Viewer control missing smart tag

I have a WinForms application with several report viewers that are functioning. I am creating a new form and adding a report. I created the Windows Form, basic report (.rdlc), and added the data adapters. To verify data binding, I added a grid view on the form to make sure the data is loading. I then drag the Report Control from the toolbox onto the form. However, there is no smart tag on the ReportViewer control!!! I looked at the other forms and they also are missing smart tags only on the ReportViewer control - they are present on all the data adapters. What is wrong with my developer? How do I configure the ReportViewer without the smart tag? I have looked at the 'designer' code from the other viewer forms and could attempt to duplicate but would rather not. I am using VS 2008, SP1, vers 3.5

LocalReport.Render PDF unexpected mailto link issue

Hi All

I have som code that renders a RDLC report as PDF file and its working great except for one issue. One section of text I have in the report contains an @ symbol but not within an email address it's used to show value rate like 150@10.00p/unit

However when I generate the PDF and open it up in Adobe Reader and hover over that section of text I get a mailto link (mailto:150@10.00p/unit) that when clicked opens an outlook new e-mail window.

I'm not positive if this is a problem with how the report is rendered or is an issue with how Adobe Reader is displaying the file, but I have searched online and found nothing about a similar problem with either, so any help from anyone in here would be very welcome.

Need to remove blank space on pages where Header should not print

I am writing a report for a Fax process. There is a cover page with the total number of pages and then subsequent pages with a table that produces the details from a table. However, I've set up the cover page to be part of the header. It's the only way I know of to capture the GlobalVariable "Total Pages". I only want the cover page to print once. The problem is that the blank space left by where the header is appears on every page. How do I eliminate this extra space on all of the detail pages. I can't change the height of the header because that doesn't work.
How do we eliminate this white space on the extra pages? Trying to capture the Total Pages in a variable doesn't work either.
