This is my error when i run debug, it occurs twice, once for the page file I am working on and once for site master:

Error 1 Unable to load referenced library 'C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.21006\Temporary ASP.NET Files\website2\d87108fa\_shadow\e779b6fe\3852257074\30043656\App_Web_site.master.cdcab7d2.nattq5gy.dll': The system cannot find the file specified.

I know it must be something simple that I've overlooked. I don't know what to try to get rid of the error.

VWD 2010 source editor issues

Hi,
I can't seem to find the NavigateTo function in VWD2010 and also the source window doesn't seem to include the member comboboxes used to navigation methods and attributes when editing classes.

Apologies if a dumb question, but can't find any other issues on this and not sure what I'm doing wrong. VWD 2008 works fine.

Visual Studio 2010 Beta vs Visual Studio 2008 Pro

Hi I was just about to upgrade from the Express Version of VS 2008 to the Pro version. Then the Beta for 2010 was released. I am upgrading as I want the increased functionality, and certain third party controls are not supported in the Express Version.

Here is my question: should I purchase the 2008 Pro and then upgrade to the 2010 equivalent when its released. Or should I simply use the 2010 Beta and then convert to it Pro equivalent?

I am guessing that one of the issues that I may run into is incompatibility of these third party controls in the Beta. I am also not sure what version the Beta is expressed in (i.e. full version).

I see I can select ARM7 platform for example, and some other. This is embedded microcontroller with ARM7 instruction set. So does it work is it supported?

Can Not Create New SQL Server Database with VS2010 B2 Ultimate Server Explorer

On my Windows Server 2008 system, If I use the VS2010 B2 Ultimate Server Explorer pane, I can see my SQL Server instance running. If I choose Create New SQL Server Database from the Data Connections, No server shows up in the Server Name list box even if I hit the list expand button or the Refresh button.

How do I get a list of runn SQL Servers and create a new SQL database using the Server Explorer in VS2010 B2 Ultimate?

Why are no servers listed if the SQL Server instance is show running?

Toolbox - Can't Add items In Beta 2

Beta 2, in a Silverlight Project. I click on Add Tab in the toolbox. This works. I then try to choose items. I get a buzy icon for a few seconds, then VS freezes. When I try to shut it down, a dialog appears that says a modal dialog is open, but it not visible to me. Tried this many times, same result each time.

This is running on Windows 7, 64 bit.

Hello All ,

I have an intresting issue with B2 Proffesional and "Add Reference" dialog.
There are 2 assemblies: first one is unmanaged assembly that is placed in GAC_32,
and second one is C# assembly that has System.Drawing, mscorlib, System, System.Web and System.Windows.Forms references that is in GAC_MSIL

If project uses ".NET Framework 4 Client Profile", the first assembly only is available in Add Reference dialog.
Is there any chance to see both assemblies in default Add Reference dialog if client profile is used?
or may i add own references to the client profile?

Note: i have no issues when platform is set to ".NET Framework 4"

Hello,
I installed Visual Studio 2010 on a PC side by side with Visual Studio 2008.

In the Application tab in the Application properties menu, and in the Target framework list, it contains .NET Framework 3.5.

Is it .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 or just 3.5 ?

Moreover, in the 'Install other frameworks' option and the webpage that ensues (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/netframework/aa569263.aspx) it gives the option to install .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, leading someone to conclude that 3.5 SP1 is NOT currently installed. Which is it?

SmtpClient.Send throws exception in .net 4, same code works in .net 3.5

I tried running this code:

 SmtpClient client = new SmtpClient("mail.server.com");

client.UseDefaultCredentials = true;

client.Send("from@email.com", "from@email.com", "Subject", "Body");

It works prefect in 3.5 in 4 I get an SmtpException that has an inner exception stating "{"Index and count must refer to a location within the string.\r\nParameter name: count"}". I have no idea what it's talking about, it looks like it is doing some string parsing, but everything I'm passing in is in the correct format?

Anyone else tried this?

I want to use opencv library in vs2010. In vs2008 i can set my project like that: tools->options->VC++ directories->include directories->C:\Program Files\OpenCV\include\opencv;tools->options->VC++ directories->library directories->F:\CMakeOpenCV\lib\Release;F:\CMakeOpenCV\lib\Debug; and in project->property->configuration properties->linker->AdditionalDependencies->*.lib
How to include the .lib files in vs2010 just like in vs2008.

Unable to run distributed tests with 2 agents

Hi,
I have installed the vs2010 test agents on 2 machines. The controller exists on a third machine.
I have also given each of the agent a weighting of 50 each and not 100.
However when I initiate the test run, the tests are run on only one agent.

How can I have both the agents executing the tests similtaneously?

Sorry if this is a re-post -- the one I tried earlier seemed to "hang"...

Every time (today) that I try "File | New | Project..." VS2010 Beta 2 crashes ignominiously. I even rebooted twice. I submitted a bug report about it this morning.

Is there a way to create a new project via the command line?

Error building a x32 project under Windows 7 x64

The operating system is Windows 7 64 bit.

Hardware is a 4 processor 64 bit Dell workbook.

The application, LitePipe Management is currently a desktop production application built in Visual Studio 2008.

The install of Visual Studio 2010 beta went without problem. When attempting to build the project the following error message is displayed:

File 'mscorcfg.dll' targeting 'AMD64' is not compatible with the project's target platform 'x86'

Additional information.

I can run without error a production copy of the LitePipe program without errors.

When I attempted to run the LitePipe (32) on the 64 bit Windows 7 it would not allow the use of the app.config file. All application entries that were in this file had to be put in the registry so the same build could work running under Windows 7 (32) or (64). There may have been a more elegant way to solve this problem, but this is my current solution.

WPF 4 beta 2 should have the "fixed" font rendering built in. My question is, is the new, fixed mode enabled in the current bits (VS2010 beta 2)? I don't mean in WPF itself but for the Visual Studio shell and editor itself.

I am trying Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 and everything seems to be working quite well except for one remaining stumbling block.

When I run my deployment project (which is supposed to build an MSI file), it errors out with the following message:

Unable to find module file 'c:\program files\common files\merge modules\crystal_managed2003.msm'

The strange part is my project has nothing to do with Crystal Reports and exactly the same project runs just fine under Visual Studio 2005 and 2008. I checked the directory referenced in the error and the mentioned file is not there ( I am not sure if it should've come with the installation of VS2010 or not).

Is this a known issue? Can anyone shed some light on it?

A project with "Register for COM interop" enabled requires an application restart to build correctly.

If you have a project with the "Register for COM interop" option enabled, then the build will fail unless Visual Studio 2010 is restarted with Administrator privileges. It seems like the simplest way to always start the app with sufficient privileges is to check "Run as Administrator" in the Compatibility tab of the shortcut's properties panel.

But checking this option causes a UAC prompt to appear on application startup. This new behavior is pretty annoying, but I suppose it has more to do with running on Windows 7 than with running Visual Studio 2010. Nevertheless, I would think that the "Register for COM interop" option would cause Visual Studio 2010 to automatically elevate during the build without causing the UAC prompt since that's what the developer wants to happen and they've already stated as much by checking the box.

At the very least, enabling "Register for COM interop" should cause an icon and message to appear warning the developer that they'll have to restart the application for the build to complete successfully.

Does anyone know of a better solution to this than hitting a UAC speedbump on every startup?

CodedUITest UIMapDesigner.vb does not retain changes made !

Hi,
I am using vs 2010 beta 2 ultimate for creating coded ui tests.
I recorded a test and made changes to the UIMap.Designer.vb file to parameterize my own data which is passed from the coded UI test file.
Here is an example

Dim username As String = TestContext.DataRow("LDAP")
Dim serialno As String = TestContext.DataRow("SERIALNO")
Dim filecode As String = TestContext.DataRow("FILECODE")
Me.UIMap.CreateNewEquipment(username, serialno, filecode)

I receive it in UIMapDesigner.vb like --

Public Sub CreateNewEquipment(ByVal username As String, ByVal serialno As String, ByVal filecode As String)

I then make the necessary changes for text fileds etc to use the passed param values.
I save/build and execute.

The tests run perfect.

The problem comes when I now record another test (functionality) and go back to the UIMap.Designer.vb.

I find that all the changes I had done are removed and back to default like before I started the editing!!!

How can i save the changes made so that they dont get overwritten by adding new coded ui tests?

Support for Higher DPI displays

Hello,

I'm currently running Windows 7 Professional and just installed Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate Beta 2.

My system settings have my twin, 1680x1050 displays running at 120dpi.

However, I've noticed that like VS10's predecessors, it has no non 96dpi support. All the icons look grainy and unprofessional, which is a shame since many developers are using high resolution screens and will want to increase the dpi to make it easier to see.

I would like to recommend that the creators of VS10 add multiple dpi support (at least 96, 120, and 144) similar to how Windows 7 supports it. As I understand, getting higher resolution icons is a good first step.

I'm not able to compile even a simple code. Below is the error. I think it is because before ths 2010 installation I had MS Visual C++ EE, and now tehre is something messed up.

I had installed VS2008, GuidanceAutomationExtensions 2008 and VsSDK 2008 to my computer before. Now I want to install the VS2010B2Pro. After the installation, When I opened a VS2008 solution with the VS2008, I found that I can not use the GuidanceAutomationExtensions 2008. I am sure that the GuidanceAutomationExtensions 2008 can be used before the VS2010B2Pro installation. Who can tell me the reason?

The editor window close button used to be located at the top right-hand corner and was easy to use. Now that the close button is located on the window tab itself, the mouse cursor position has to be changed after closing each window which is annoying. Why not put the editor window close button in both places; on the window's tab and in the top right-hand corner of the window set.

Debugging HLSL code in Visual Studio

Visual Studio 2003 debugger allow to debug HLSL code (i.e. set breakpoints, inspect variables, etc.). This feature was removed in the subsequent versions of Visual Studio. Is there any chance to have it back? PIX for windows (in DXSDK) is not actually a debugger for HLSL code since you can debug the code after the application had finished. And I found no way to debug mixed Direct3D 9 and Direct3D 10 code in the same time ( my app uses WPF 3.51 which is based on Direct3D 9 and it hosts my Direct3D 10 code for display )

I used this to load a project open inside Visual Studio (with the full path of the project file), and it works in VS2008 but not in VS2010 beta2. Is there any changes to get the MSBuild project with VS2010? Here is the code:

Test - UI Web Test

Using Visual Studio 2010 beta 2 and Windows 7 I am creating a web UI test. Many times I get an error on combos and hyperlinks and the error states it cannot find the control. It is not always consistent as sometimes it works. What can I do to fix the problem. Does anybody else have this probem? When the test is long, it almost always fails, but if I break it into smaller tests, I can get farther.

Is there any tutorial to teach writing coded UI tests without a builder? The action recorder is good, but the generated codes are too difficult to read anyway and too complicated to me. I tried to launch a AUT (Calculator) by calling ApplicationUndeTest.Launch() method, and then trying to find a button to click. The calculator is actually launched, but the Mouse.Click() alway throw a null reference exception. Here is my codes:

IntelliSense for javascript doesn't work.

Hello,

1) javascript intellisense doesn't work anymore. I use

at the beginning of the .js file. In Beta 1, all works fine. In aspx files (using <script> tag) the same behavior.

2) Views in a MVC project show the message:

Warning 1 Validation ($SCHEMA$): Element 'h2' is not supported. ...\Views\Home\Index.aspx 10 6 #

This happens when opening the demo page Home/Index.aspx page from the MVC 2.0 project template

In Beta 1, all works fine.

I did a repair install but no improvement.
