    I have Windows7 64bit.

    Visual Studio 2010 SP1

When I try to debug my web Application the page will not display with the message "Internet Explorer Cannot Display the webpage".

If you right click and take the "view in Browser" option the page opens fine, but does not debug.

Evertthing was fine last week but now I have a problem.

Any help would be gratefully received

    Thank you

    Hi Dennis,

Thank you for posting in the MSDN forum.

Not very sure whether it is the VS debugger tool issue, if you debug this app in another pc, whether it has this issue? Does it work well before?

If it works well in another PC, to make sure that it is not related to your VS, maybe you could try to check it with the following steps.

You need locate to the IDE folder then run these commands, or you can set path to the system environment.

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE

Devenv.exe /SafeMode: Launches the IDE in safe mode loading minimal windows.

Devenv.exe /ResetSettings: Restores the IDE's default settings, optionally resets to the specified VSSettings file.

Devenv.exe /ResetAddin: Removes commands and command UI associated with the specified Add-in.

Devenv.exe /ResetSkipPkgs: Clears all SkipLoading tags added to VSPackages.

If still no help, maybe you could try to repair your VS and check it, if still no help, I doubt that it is related to your IE.

Internet Explorer Cannot Display the webpage

Actually, there are many reasons which could generate this issue, for detailed information, see this KB . Hope it could help.

Hi Jack - Thanks for replying.

I have tried everything you suggest - but unfortunately I still have the same problem.

I have also tried the following:-

    1. Created a new web.   The problem is still there  - so it does not appear to be a problem with my web application.
    2. Changed my default browser to Chrome and then to Firefox.  The same problem persisted so I agree with you - I don't think it is the IE browser.

Everything was fine until a week ago.  Since then I have this problem.

I think it must be something created by an automatic update.  But what it is I do not know.

Be glad to hear if you have any other ideas.

    Thanks

    Dennis

    Hi Dennis,

    Glad to receive your reply.

Maybe you could try to reinstall your VS and check it again, if still no help, I’m afraid that it is not the VS debugger tool issue. Not very sure that whether it is related to the IE, maybe you could post a thread in the IE forum for better support, as you said that if you doubt that it is related to your windows update, maybe you could  reload your PC and check it.

    Best Regards,

    Hi Jack

Sorry I had to unmark the above as an answer to my problem.

I have reinstalled VS and applied Service pack 1.

I have removed IE and installed it again.

I have transferred the application to another computer with the same environment and everything works OK on that computer.

In short - I still have the same problem which is that VS will not run in debug.  It will run with "view in browser".

I am totally perplexed and have no idea what to do.

    Best regards

    Dennis

    Hi Dennis,

Sorry for my reply no help.

    1. The same app worked well in other PC, maybe you could copy the VS settings file from this PC to your VS which has this issue.
    2. You have re-install the VS and IE, it has the same issue, so I’m afraid that it is not the VS and IE issue.

About this issue, I think it is not the VS issue, I doubt that it is related to your Window Environment. I don’t have other good idea, as you said it worked well before, if you set the restore point in your PC, maybe you could restore it. If not, I suggest your re-install your windows.
