How can I focus a particular item in ListBox in WPF

Hi,

I have a listBox whose elements are binded using ItemsSouce.
Now in the code behind I want to move the focus to the 3rd item in the listbox.
Can somone tell me as to how can I acheive this?
I think that once we get the access to listboxItem than we can easily set the focus by calling <listboxitem>.Focus(). But now the question is how can I get a particular ListBoxItem object for a binded ListBox?

Even though it looked quite obvious to me, I didnt found a solution.

How to debug XamlParseException in WPF?

Hi,

I am getting XamlParseException for one of my xamls which reads somethign like this. This xaml is for Usercontrol.

"Cannot assign root instance of type <class name of xaml.cs> to <class name of xaml.cs>". And it is showing error occured at Line 0 and Position 0.

I looked at the Debug -> Output window to find some more exceptions but unfortunately I couldn't found any other than the XamlParseException.

Can someone please help me in figuring out the exact issue?

The latest version of .NET (3.5) does not have alternative font rendering or anti-aliasing fonts. Will these be implemented into the 3.5 or will they be included in 4.0?

Why source property need not be a dependency property in data binding in WPF?

Hi,

I am very much confused with one fact in WPF Data Binding. WPF says that in data binding, where we bind source property to some target property, target property should be dependency property but source property need not be dependency property. But it appears reverse to me, reason being as follows.

Binding means that when ever the value of source changes than target value should be updated.

Now I ahve 2 questions
1. If the source property is not a dependency property than how does change notification goes from source property to target property.
2. I dont understand the need for target to be dependency property in binding?

I think I am definitely missing something here. Can someone please clear my confusion?

on clicking the listviewitem ,the selected item is not showing any color on single click, but double click the listviewitem, now the selected item can be seen by the default blue color, please help me , i need to fix this issue,, on jus clicking the listviewitem, i need to set the selected item to some color so that the user will come to know which item does he selected.

data virtualization via a ListView

I presented the below query on the WPF forum, but it might get more mileage on this network since it has to do with "Data and WPF" - and it could be i'd need to move to VS 2010 to better be able to do what i am asking below....

I have a collection that i bind to my WPF ListView. It is (what i call) a "data window" to the larger mass of data that i access via a webservice. I think i'll write my own bindable custom collection, deriving from ObservableCollection<T> or alternatively a collection that implements IList and INotifyCollectionChanged. So when my "data window" changes the ListView gets its data automatically. I have have found a few links on this challenge, here, here, here, here, and here, on the basis i which i could formulate the following three questions.

(a) Which custom collection way should i go? Either way will dynamically update my ListView. I am refactoring my current collection List<T> that i tweaked so it Sorts real fast. But i can write a good Sort() method for either of the two refactoring ways.

(b) I'd like the scrollbar in my ListView to emulate that it is viewing much larger data than the Collection to which the ListView is actually binded.
Suggestion for this?

(c) How to get events from the scrollbar, like when scrolling to an area of data i have not yet downloaded?
I'd need this to decide when to update the collection i binded to or alternatively rebind the ListView.

The above points (b) and (c) concerns lazy loading of data - i hope it has someones interest!

Please note that i am aware that my ListView does UI virtualization via its viewport of the data it is already binded too. I am looking to implement data virtualization that augments the already existing UI virtualization. It is a new requirement that my ListView be used to view online data. I would like the scrollbar to represent the range of data available. As the user scrolls, the data is brought in, in "chuncks", thus lazy loading.

How to set the Visibility of an control from Resources.resx file?

Hi,

I'm trying to get the visibility value of a button from the resources.resx file. I'm getting error as "Cannot convert the string value to Visibility.Collapsed" . Here my code as follows,

XAML Code:-

Resources.resx Code:-

In the Output window the control should not appear, as per the above code. But the button is appearing in the window. As well as in the above code i have done for the Content of the Button its working fine for me.

But the Visibility is not working, or am I did any mistakes on the code. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I have tried so many ways to resolve the above issue. but I couldn't Please any can give me the guidence or code samples would be greatly appericiate.

Please let me know if more inputs required for the same.

WPF Designer: Property editor does not allow to choose from NewItemTypesAttribute'd list

Hello,

in the WPF designer VS2010 CTP, the property editor of a control does not allow to make a choice between different classes for a property, when different possible classes are defined using the NewItemTypes attribute.

In VS2008, a combo box would appear and allow to make a choice. In Vs2010, no such choice is possible any more but the text "Value must be set in XAML" is displayed.

Will this feature be available again?

Data Sources Wizard and objects, sample app

my main interest in evaluating the VS2010CTP is the Data Sources Wizard for WPF pages and how it can be used with object data provider source.

I have done some tests and found a few issues and I have also a number of proposals for the Data Sources Wizard for WPF.

I've put together a repro-sample and I have documented the issues in a word document along with a number of screen shots.

However, for some legal reasons I cannot post this sample app in this public forum. I can however send it to microsoft by private email directly. Can you please contact me and tell me the appropriate email address, either here or by sending a mail to info@ait-software.de

Here's the summary from the 6-pages document this I'd like to send you along with the sample project:

Summary of my requests and wishes in the order of importance:

1. Allow to access Sources from static resources that are declared in App.xaml in <Application.Resources>.

2. Allow customization of the properties being offered as path segments. Allow to hide properties, even when inherited from a base class.

3. Support a path syntax like this “FirstLevel[1].SecondLevel[0].Something” to address specific instances within lists.

4. Support value converter selection and parameterization in a convenient way, at least by displaying short descriptions about the syntax or – better – by allowing some sort of customization to build the syntax of the ConverterParameter.

5. Offer a test function to allow the user to test a ValueConverter with some sample data.

6. Make resizing the Wizard window easier. Make it keep the size when the user resized it.
7. Show tooltip information about the segmens of a path including the data type (e.g. "System.Int32" or "List") and either the documentation summary or the text from a DescriptionAttribute.

Hi,

From the CTP, it seems the designer support for WPF data binding is based on the same old Data Sources Window used for WinForms. drag-and-drop data binding is an incredibly useful feature, but the Data Sources Window has some annoying limitations that make it very hard to use effectively in a real world application.

Since WPF came along a few years ago, I figured it was hopeless to try to get these limitations addressed because Microsoft is not going to invest heavily in the old WinForms. Now that WPF uses the same window, any chance of improving the Data Sources Window for the VS2010 release?

Some examples of missing extensibility options-

An ability to filter what is displayed in the data tree itself. For example, if all our business object have "Min" and "Max" property, I'd like to be able to let the tree ignore these.

An ability to capture the drag and drop operation from the tree, get the full path to the key that was dragged, and let me handle creating the controls instead of the built-in mechanism. This will be useful in order to create multiple custom controls, do post processing to "patch up" some properties to be suitable for our application, or just about anything else we'll need.

Ability to attach custom controls to specific types of enums. For example, attach a specific "OnOffEnum" to a specific custom control, instead of just mapping all enums to the same.

Differents template for different rows in a ListView

I have a listview that shows a list of elements of two types, files and folders. This listview has 4 columns ( Name, Data, Size and Icon ). For files, all columns has sense but not for folders ( they only have Name field ). So I would like to use a different template for folders ( like a RowSpan for 4 columns o something like this )

My ideas started using a ListBox instead of a ListView but, I loose column resizing. I'm thinking in it but I have no idea.

Using the Designer to Bind WPF Controls to Objects

Hi,

I couldn't find an option to data-bind WPF Controls to plain Objects using the designer, it seems to require an "entity data model" or a dataset.

Binding to objects is possible with WinForms using the Data Sources Window. I'd like to be able to easily bind to data without requiring a database. Is this possible for WPF with the CTP? Is it planned for the vs2010 release?

I have a page function to enter data tied to an object.

It has bunch of Textboxes and "Accept" Button

I am using ValidationRules to validate TextBoxes. This works correctly and when I enter Invalid data the textbox turns to invalid state. However the underlying value of object property does not change.

Hello my dear friends,
                    Plz help me.. its too urgent.I 'd created a kiosk application with WPF and in each page
i am dynamically creating user controls to bind the data.When clicking to user control it moves to the
corresponding page which also carries dynamically created user controls.The controls that I am creating
using xml files too. In usual case it 'll work fine.Clicking slowly it 'll move to the corresponding pages and all.

             The problem happened when a person tries to continuosly click on the user control more than
4 or 5 times one MS error is throughing and application get closed.

         i think, why its happening is when clicking 4 or 5 times my navigations pages are getting over.
Is it possible for me to control the click events of mouse or finger click only once in each page?

Supressing the Download Dialog box while opening Word Document in Web Browser Control

Hi,

I want a solution to suppress the download dialog box while opening Word document in web browser contro.

Following are the things i've done

1. Have created a use control that contains the browser control to invoke from any project of my solution.

2. Opening the file that is passed to this user control.

The user controls opens the PDF and other files with out any problem. But the open dialog box is displayed for Microsoft files such as "Word and Excel" etc. Is there any work around to suppress this. Do let me know the solution for this. Thanks in advance.

Walkthrough: Using the Designer to Bind WPF Controls to Data in a DataSet

This walkthrough describes how to create a WPF application that contains data-bound controls. The controls are bound to a typed dataset generated from the Northwind database on SQL Server.
