Call Hierarchy absence [VB 2010]

I have two Subs and call second Sub from first Sub. I hover mouse over sub name and make right-click. In the bottom "Call Hierarchy" window appears, but it's empty. Why?

How can I Enable the Document Map Margin (rockscroll-like feature) in VS2010

In VS 2008 I'm a big fan of a free 3rd-party addin called RockScroll written by Microsoftie Rocky Downs. I was very excited to hear about a similar feature (which I've seen referred to as the "document map margin") being built in to VS 2010 (see the following links):

How do I turn this feature on? I've looked in Tools -> Options -> Text Editor, then all of Tools -> Options and View -> Other Windows without success.

Only Rename the class name between class and {...}

I change the name property of one class and find out that only the class name between class and { has changed.
Why not ask me if the filename (*.cpp and *.h) should be changed also?
Why not change all the referecence of this class name in the project?
Since Visual Studio 2010 can find them all.(It's another function in the quick menu of class).
The same function has already been existing in Eclipse.
At least, all the construct function and disconstruct function should be changed.

Trying to create a work item on TFS 2010 Beta 2 fails with unsupported value in the Assigned To and Crreated By fields (TF20015) error.

We went through number of issues trying to create a project all related to the creation of the SharePoint portal. By manually setting accounts and permissions we managed to go through this step, and now that we have a project we cannot create work items. Seems like these issues are all related to AD, but I am not yet sure what exactly causes the problem as it does not look like a firewall issue in our case.

Disable ClearType

VS 2010 Beta 1 have cleartype active in all code editors (html, cs, vb). Cleartype makes the code editor blurry and difficult for read. I cannot find the option for disable the cleartype in the VS 2010 preferences.
Why include cleartype in VS 2010 code editor?

with the pretty ready release of Visual Studio 2010 Beta I asked myself how Visual Studio SDK and Visual Studio Extensibility will approach with the new IDE.

There will be compatibility between works develloped with Visual Studio SDK 2008 and Visual Studio 2010?
There will be a new Visual Studio SDK 2010 ?
There will be a different approach to Extensibility (expecially with WPF) ?
...

These are just few questions about this argument, so any news, links, resources about that are really welcome! ;)

On my Intel Core 2 Duo machine running MS Windows XP Pro, 3GB RAM the VS.Net 2010 IDE is very slow, it takes along time to start up and also create a new project freezing along the way.

Anyone have a suggestion on how to increase the speed?

VS2008 Add Service Reference Issue

Hi

I am using VSTS 2008 SP1, created an Service using WCF 3.0 with one custom falut exception.
When I have created a proxy uisnh VS feature, Add Service Reference, it has created class of DataContract twice with two diff GenerateCode Attribute in the Refrence.cs. Because this it gives compile time error.
Anything missing?
Please help.

Experimental Hive Support

In the new version of Visual Studio, if I only use MEF support for my extensions, is there a way to disable my component in a debug environment? (IE, one debugging VS with no component, one debugee VS with the component). This was a very normal scenario with regular/experimental hives, and it was really useful. I can think of 2 cases where this will be needed:
1) If my component completely crashes VS (already done that!), there is no way to debug to see how far it'll get before crashing
2) If my component modifies the behaviour of the language in which the component is developed (a C# component modifying the C# editor), I may end up being unable to code the component without removing it first: code - close vs - test - close vs - del component - code.

Would like to put pictures or images in Visual Studio Editor.

I bought a tablet input panel for my Vista desktop hoping to use it to write code, unfortunately the analyzers are designed for verbal languages and don't work well with code languages. So I was wondering if there are any plans for this in the next Visual Studio, or at the very least I would like to put the idea on the table. Thanks.

Force partial class to be in branch of main class

If create a partial class of, for example Class1, and I name the new file Class1.Designer, then the solution explore automatically draws the Class1.Designer in a branch of the solution tree, Class1.Designer.vb root is Class1.vb file.

I would like to have any Class1.Anything.Anything...Anything.vb as a branch under Class1.vb

¿Is possible?

if not, at least is possible to define some extensions as Class1.Factory.vb to have the same behavior than .Designer?

Ctrl+Enter on block doesn't indent caret on new line

Don't know how many people use this feature, but I've gotten into the habit of using it frequently when writing a new method. After setting the ending brace on a block, I'll press Ctrl+Enter, which creates a new line above the caret (between the begin and end curly braces) and then moves the caret to the indented position on the new line. I begin typing from there.

I just tried this in VS2010 and it almost worked, except that the caret ended up on the first column, instead of indented.

Editing StartPage.xaml

As I was going through the CTP WalkThrough on the how to customize the Start Page, I found that it was fairly difficult to find the matching tag.

There are 2 techniques I use:
1. Put cursor at the begining of the tag then press CTRL+]. That jumps me to the next tag ... which could be several screen pages down.
2. Put cursor at beginning of the tag and then press SHIFT+CTRL+] and that highlights the entire section.

Now if, as per the walkthrough, I want to comment out the welcome button, I start with adding the "!---", the entire xaml from that point forward is commented. Now it becomes extremely difficult to find the matching tag to put the "--->" delimiter.

What would be good is an enhancement to the xaml editing experience so that you can still use the two methods I listed above to find the matching tag.

Essentially, what is needed is a good way to find matching tags when the xaml code is not in a fully "compilable" state.

Whilst doing the CTP walkthrough for the "how to customize Start Pages", I found that studio complained about the syntax when nothing was wrong.

In addition, the designer had infinite number of buttons that weren't even defined in my startpage.xaml.

Without modifying a thing, I closed studio down, then reopened studio and solution and everything was fine.

What is the best way I can report these types of glitches?

How can I turn on Code Folding?

I added #region/#endregion, but couldn't collapse them. I looked for an option that turns it on but couldn't find it. Have I overlooked the option or is it not yet implemented?

Classification vs Fonts and Colors

Hi,

I've been using Classification (with the text coloring sample and my own mini-language) and so far I really like it. I only have 2 comments:

1. I find the ClassificationTypeDefinition class redundant. The name is already attributed in the ClassificationFormatDefinition, and the type definition doesn't add anything new. Is there a plan to have more information in the type definition?

2. May be related: is there (or will there be) a way to associate my format definition (or type definition) to an item in Fonts and Colors? Static configuration of the color scheme may not be the best choice...

VS2010 crash when I try to import settings from VS2008

I have a VS2008 installation where I customized my IDE. Then I exported the settings and tried to import to VS2010. The VS2010 crash when I try to import settings and to workaround I have to use devenv /restarsetting to get VS2010 work again.
Any idea?

I am trying to create a new activity library in vs 2010, when I try to create the project VS throws the following error:

c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v.4.0.11214\microsoft.common.targets(853,11): The imported project file "c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v4.0.11214\microsoft.common.targets" could not be loaded. An XML comment cannot contain '--', and '-' cannot be the last character, Line 853, position 11.

Let me know how to get around this problem. I also tried closing and opening VS, but did not help.

From the walkthrough, I see the following excerpt but I can't seem to locate any option for highlighting a line. BTW, love the Zoom feature!

Line highlighting. To set the editor to highlight the current line, click Tools, click Options, expand Environment, click Fonts and Colors, and then select the line-highlight option in the Display items list.

Hi All:

First all, please sorry for my bad English.

I tested the code & design side by side edition in VS2010 (Configuring WPFShellMode in the registry) and this new feature really seems cool :-)

I used multiple monitors since 10 years ago, and as you can imagine, it is a long waited feature...

But, let me say that actually it is not really I expected.. :-(

Let me explain:

If I have 2 monitors, I want to see always the design window in a monitor and the code window in the other one.
So, you need create a new permanent tab group in VS2010 only for the code...
This way you don't force the users to move each code window to another region of the screen (or to the other monitor).

In other words: In the solution explorer, I should to be able to do the follow:

1) Right-click over any element -> View designer >>> This must show the desing tab in monitor 1
2) Right-click over any element -> View code >>> This must show the code tab in monitor 2

It is possible ?

Font Quality Issues

I have to say I am concerned by the decision to adopt WPF for the Visual Studio Editor. I have voiced my opinion in another forum (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/wpf/thread/1ad9a62a-d1a4-4ca2-a950-3b7bf5240de5/) regarding the quality issues in WPF font rendering before. Since that time I have adopted ClearType regularly because Vista's font rendering is superior to Windows XP, but WPF still falls behind. I took a look at the CTP to check for myself and this is what I found. For larger fonts, like the text in the editor itself, the difference is subtle but still lacking behind VS 2008. The difference is mostly noticeable as a slight lost of contrast. For the tooltips and drop downs above the editor, however, the difference is dramatically worse. I hope this can be corrected before the final release. This really matters when you spend all day in the IDE, so please take this into consideration. Thank you.

i added i new item of type dataset. now i want to add a conncetion to my db so i can have a typed dataset from where i can get data from but i get error message: the event log file is full !!!!!!!!!!!!

Breakpoints enhacements

I think that would be very nice to be able to tag a set of breakpoints with custom labels.For example, I set two breakpoints related with WCF calls, and two others for the business logic implementation classes, so while debugging the application, I only want the wcf related's breakpoint to be enabled.

is there any way to do so?? Maybe by macros?? If it isn't, would be great!!

Cound not find Line highlighting option

In the walkthrogh, it says "To set the editor to highlight the current line, click Tools, click Options, expand Environment, click Fonts and Colors, and then select the line-highlight option in the Display items list"

But I cound not find "line-highlight" in Display items.

The current implementation of "Regex search and replace" uses a non-standard syntax for regular expressions that differs from the common regex variants (including the .NET Framework Regex class). Would it be possible to add an entry to the "Use" dropdown on the Find and Replace dialog to "Perform this search using System.Text.RegularExpressions.Regex" ?

Zooming method

I think zoom in or out by using mouse wheel is a nice feature .

One thing I think inconvenient is I cannot tell the current scale.
So it its hard to reset scale to 100% or desired scale.

I think it is nice to have Office 2007 like UI for zooming feature for Visual Studio.

Call Hierarchy Fails when you have EnableWPFShell set to 1

I was testing the EnableWPFShell feature and set the flag to 1. The windows feature works great, I am able to take a code editor window outside of the Shell. The problem is that not the "Call Hierarchy" feature does not work. It always gives you an "Object Reference not set to an instance of an object"

Just checking if this is a know bug.

VS crashes when loading new extensions

I was using one instance of VS in which I compiled the TextColoringSample and then launched a second instance, and copied the extension DLL to the "Components" folder so I could test it on this second instance.

As I mentioned in my previous post this actually locks the assembly and I can continue developing on the first VS instance, but what it is even worse now is that the first VS instance crashes after I copy the assembly...

Is "hot" loading of components not supported just yet? Is this a bug?
