I have vb 2008 on a vista 64 machine and saw info on powerpack 3.0 so thought I would install it.  it keeps hanging up when gets to the print form part of the installation.  But when went to install again, it says "uninstall" or "repair"  But both of these hang in the same place.

Went to the uninstall via the control panel and it still hangs so had to shut that down as well.

    What can I do?

As I recall it took quite awhile on some machines, definitely longer than 4 minutes. I haven't tried installing Power Packs 3.0 on a machine that has SP1 installed, so that very well could be causing your issue as well.

You can check in the Add Reference dialog to see if you have duplicate entries for the Power Packs controls (with different version numbers). At any rate, as long as you only reference one version you should be fine.

    Hello,

I have the same config as you mentioned. I don't know how long you have waiting to finish the installation. When i installed the pack it takes about 10 min. for the last 2% of installation. It sames the machine was hanging but finally it finished yhe installation.

    Kind regards

    Hi,

When you say it "hangs", how long are you waiting. As I recall the setup can sometimes take quite a while when it gets to the part where it needs to merge the documentation.

By the way, the Power Packs are included in Service Pack 1 for Visual Studio 2008 - you should consider installing SP1 instead of Power Packs 3.0.

    Hope this helps,

    Hi:

Well, I only waited a 4 minutes since it seemed stuck at the point toward the end of the installation on clearing backup files.  Is it suppose to take much longer?

I realized afterwards that I did have sp1 and I see that I can still reference it even after all the repairing, removing, installing from the download that I did.

    Hopefully, all is working.

    Thanks

New here, but can't seem to get my first posting to go. It claims the body of my simple question needs to be between 6 and 600,000 characters, orsomesuch -- seems my  10-word question fits the bill: "How does one delete an icon from the tack bar?"

Hopefully, as a MSFT Moderator, you'll be able to help 1. answer my question and 2. tell me how to post a question that is clearly within the character limit.

This forum is waaaaaaaay short of being helpful so far.

    1. We can't answer your question unless you provide more context. What is "the tack bar" and what (if anything) does it have to do with VB Power Packs, let alone a thread about installation? It appears you may be in the wrong forum.

    2. See "How to post a question" here: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/help#213

And a little advice... complaining about the forum not being helpful isn't going to make anyone eager to answer your posts.

Yes, I thought it had stopped at the point of 2% or so left, but it was clearly my fault for presuming there was a problem.  Luckily, no repercussions so far from my actions.  Thanks for the response.
