The release version of the Multilingual App Toolkit will work Visual Studio 2012 RTM. The Multilingual App Toolkit RC release does work with the Visual Studio 2012 Express for Windows 8 RTM. However, the Toolkit’s setup is not discovering the non-Express editions of Visual Studio 2012 RTM installations.
It is possible to manually work around this issue. The workaround involves installing Visual Studio Express 2012 for Windows 8 to enable the installation of the required files.
Here are the detailed steps:
- Ensure that the Multilingual App Toolkit is completely uninstalled.
- Ensure Visual Studio 2012 Express for Windows 8 is installed in addition to Visual Studio 2012 Pro or Ultimate.
- Install the Multilingual App Toolkit for Visual Studio 2012 RC using the ‘Complete’ installation selection.
- Open the File Explorer and copy (not move) the Multilingual App Toolkit folder from “C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Common7\IDE\VSWinExpressExtensions\Microsoft” to “C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Common7\IDE\Extensions\Microsoft”
- Verify you have the “C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Common7\IDE\Extensions\Microsoft\Multilingual App Toolkit\v1.0” folder with the binaries and language subfolders.
- Run as an Administrator the “VS2012 x86 Native Tools Command Prompt”
- From the newly opened “VS2012 x86 Native Tools Command Prompt”, run: devenv /setup /nosetupvstemplates
Note: This may take a few minutes to run. Please wait for it to finish before moving on to the next step. - Start Visual Studio 2012 (pro or Ultimate) and confirm the installation of the “Multilingual App Toolkit” using the Tools->Extension and Updates menu.
- Enable the toolkit as normal on the desired projects.
After the Toolkit’s RTW bits are available, you will need to manually undo the workaround as well as uninstall the Multilingual App Toolkit RC version before installing the release version.
- Open the File Explorer and remove Multilingual App Toolkit folder from “C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Common7\IDE\VSWinExpressExtensions\Microsoft”
- Start Visual Studio 2012 (pro or Ultimate) and confirm the “Multilingual App Toolkit” has been removed using the Tools->Extension and Updates menu.
- Finish remove the Multilingual App Toolkit RC normally using Control Panel->Programs and Feature Uninstall option
