Upgrading to TFS 2010 from TFS 2008 and Server 2008 from Server 2003
-
Tuesday, January 17, 2012 10:27 PMI need to upgrade both my server from Server 2003 to Server 2008 and TFS software from 2008 to 2010. What is the best approach for this? Seems like I will have to upgrade the O/S and then do a fresh install of TFS 2010 to be compatible with 64 bit. Is that correct?

Hi messner,
Thank you for your poat.
According to your description of the issue, I suppose you want to upgrade TFS 2008 to TFS 2010. In order to upgrade successfully, i suggest you download the TFS 2010 installation guide and follow Scenario: Upgrading Team Foundation Server. The requirements for OS, SQL, SharePoint product are all list in there.
In general, there are In-place Upgrade, Upgrade by more than one server.
- In-place upgrade is upgrade TFS under existing installation of Team Foundation Server where all prerequisites are on the same server.
- Upgrade by more than one server is upgrade TFS under existing installation of Team Foundation Server for either of the following tasks:
a migration upgrade (use different hardware).
an in-place upgrade with more than one server (use the same or different hardware).
Here is an article for you to refer:
