TFS 2010 split single server into 2 with different versions

We've been running TFS 2010 for a few years on a single server using SQL 2008. We need to upgrade the hardware and wish to split it into 2 tiers; data and application. Microsoft has a nice writeup on how to do that, but this is where I need some feedback: Our single server now is Server 2008 32-bit running SQL 2008. Our 2 new servers are 2008 R2 and we would like to run SQL 2008 R2.

This writeup mentions that changing versions might complicate the restoration. Has anyone run through an upgrade like this? Are there any complications or things to watch out for?

If possible, please keep software version and edition in the new instance. Like Windows "2008" "Enterprise", SQL "2008" "Enterprise", TFS 2010. But if you have to change, what's the change?
thanks,

The change is:
FROM: single server Windows Server 2008 32-bit w/ SQL 2008
TO: 2 tiers, Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit) w/ SQL 2008 R2
Thank you.

Hello Cliff,
We can restore 32bit SQL Server 2008 DB to 64bit SQL Server 2008 R2.
However, you should make sure that both the TFS DB tier and the TFS AT tier have the same version and service pack.
