    Hi!

We currently have TFS 2005 installed on a Development 2005 SQL Server Win2k3(Single Server Environment).

We would like to move our Single Server TFS 2005 environment to a dedicated TFS 2005 server, WSS 2.0, SQL Server 2005, on Win2K8 R2.

Then we will do an inplace upgrade to TFS 2010.

    Any guidance would be appreciated.

    Hi Carlos,

    Thank you for your post.

According to your description of the issue, I suppose you want to upgrade current TFS 2005 to TFS 2010 in the same environment. If I have misunderstood anything, please free feel to let me know.

In general, upgrade TFS 2005 to TFS 2010, you need to upgrade:
    1. SQL 2005 to SQL 2008.
    2. SharePoint from WSS 2.0 to WSS 3.0 or MOSS 2007.

For more information aboout in-place upgrade, you can refer to In-Place upgrade of TFS 2005 to TFS 2010

I would like to move our current TFS2005 environment to a single location, and then in-place upgrade that. I want to know if this can be done on Server 2008 R2.

    Hi Carlos,

TFS 2005 do not support run on Windows server 2008 R2 OS.

Upgrade to TFS 2010, you need install SQL server 2008/R2, do not support SQl server 2005.

For your new OS is Win 2008 R2, in general, the steps to upgrade to TFS 2010 are:
    1. Backup your TFS 2005 database.

    2. Install TFS pre-reqs including OS, IIS, SQL Server 2008, SQL Reporting Services and Analysis Services and Windows SharePoint Services on new environment.
In this issue, the pre-reqs is Win 2008 R2, IIS, SQL 2008, WSS 3.0.

    3. Copy TFS 2005 databases.

    4. Install TFS 2010.

    5. Use TFS 2010 upgrade wizard point to the TFS 2005 databse, then migrate TFS 2005 to a new TFS 2010 team project collection.

For detail information, you can refer to Bryan's blog: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/bkrieger/archive/2009/10/21/team-foundation-server-2010-upgrade.aspx.

On Step 5.Use TFS 2010 upgrade wizard point to the TFS 2005 databse, then migrate TFS 2005 to a new TFS 2010 team project collection. When you say point TFS2010 upgrade wizard to the TFS 2005 database, you mean the restored 2005 databases on the SQL Server 2008 instance?

    Hi Carlos,

TFS Upgrade Configuration wizard is used to upgrade SQL 2005 instance that hosts the data from an earlier version of TFS. For more informatio, you can refer to How to: Upgrade Team Foundation Server Using the Team Foundation Server Configuration Tool.

    On the pre-reqs install.

Will there be an issue, due to the fact.

I will have WSS 3.0 installed on the new server, but I will be restoring the Sharepoint database, that is WSS 2.0.?
