TF30225: Error uploading report : Work Item with Tasks (believe problem within TfsWorkItem)

Greetings: I am encountering an error when I am trying to create a New Project within TFS 2008 (using a 2005 SQL server, and WSS 2.0)

The problem started a couple weeks ago, after I had to move our 2005 database to a different server.

I have read through the questions simular to mine, but they do not seem to address the issue I am having.

I am using a Custom Template, however I get the same error message while using the standard MSF for Agile Software Development v4.2, or MSF for CMMI Process Improvement - v4.2.

I have modified both the TfsOlapReportsDS and TfsReportDS (http://<server>/reports/Pages/Folder.aspx) to have the correct connection string (Data source=<DataTier>;initial catalog=TfsWarehouse). So, generating and using reports are correct.

I am wondering if the problem is related to the TfsWorkItem? I am not sure what I would put in the connection string for that.

Any help (I am unable to re-install TFS) would be appreciated.

Can not get Report from TFS 2008 (dsLastProcessedTime Error)

Hi,
I installed TFS2008 with the installation guide..(with sql server 2008) (on windows server 2008)
I encountered this problem when I want to see a report ..(For example: Remaining Work)

An error occurred during client rendering.
An error has occurred during report processing.
Query execution failed for dataset 'dsLastProcessedTime'.

Query (3, 10) Parser: The syntax for '=' is incorrect.

Nothing happens when pressing the Report Builder button.

When I press the Report Builder button on the report site homepage, nothing happens. I can see that IE is trying to open reportbuilder.application on a the report server, but I do not see any dialog requesting me to allow the application to run. When I log in on another PC with the same credentials I can create reports using Report Builder.

Can I report on the AGE of open Work Items? How? Group into Buckets?

Is there a way to report on the age of open work items?

Perhaps a bar graph that has several buckets.
a.    Over 364
b.    180 to 364
c.    90 to 179
d.    1 to 89

And then a COUNT in each bucket.

For example, if a Work Item is open longer than 364 day, it would appear in bucket "a" as a count of 1. Say there are a total of 45 Work Items that were opened older than 364 days, then "45" would appear in column "a" now say that there are 100 work items open that are 1 to 89 days old, then 100 would appear in the "d" bucket.

Make sense? How can I report like this?

How do I change the Reports Uri?

I am trying to relocate all project reports to a new sub directory I have created on the reporting server. I have run the TFSAdminUtil command line tool with the configureconnections and the reportsuri switch to no avail. The registry entry changes as does the BaseReportsUrl fk_registry_entry_id 3 value in table tbl_service_interface. Platform is Microsoft Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2008 Running on Win 2k3 Standard R2. This is a dual server install. If I move the reports from http://<servername>/Reports to http://<servername>/Reports/TFS I receive an rsItemsNotFound error, what am I missing?

If I understand this correctly, the virdir http://<servername>/Reports is the default virtual directory for SSRS, so I don't believe the virtual directory needs changing just the individual report url's. Which would be fine except that the property is disabled in team explorer, so it's obvious I can't change it there.

Data Warehouse / Cube is not refreshing

We have verified that the TFS warehouse is not updating by looking at the Build report. The report should have our latest builds, but it doesn't...it stops on June 10th. We also see the problem in other areas too.

The warehouse successfully updates whenever we run the controller service (http://localhost:8080/warehouse/v1.0/warehousecontroller.asmx) ...but not otherwise. Isn't it supposed to update automatically every 3600 seconds or something?

I've heard stories about TFS 2k8 reporting, and I'd like to know if the stories are true.

Regarding team projects, is it true that population of the data cubes is "all or nothing?" In other words, if I have ten team projects - I must populate/refresh the associated data cubes for all ten of them, even if I want just one of them to be updated?

Is it true that a good way to take the data-cube update stress away from a team project, is simply to divide the team project into multiple team projects? Or is it true that dividing a team project into multiple team projects does not buy me improved performance for data cube population?

Overall what advantages, if any, are there for having multiple team projects as the way to manage reporting? Can that advantage(s) be achieved by any other means?

I have a work item (Bug) Created on 10-Nov-09 having a priority if 1.
And I changed the priority to 2 on 11-Nov-09.

I am passing two date parameters to the query,.

I tried two different methods for that.
1.

I used datetime picker for selection of dates. In that case i am getting the report as

10-Nov-09 , i have no active items. I am getting active items count on 11-Nov-09 only.

I tried date dataset populated in a list.
In that case , on 10-Nov-09 I have active bugs.
But Ob 11-Nov-09 No bugs. I think the second one is correct.
But i have to use datetime picker.

I Deployed It using Visual Studio Itself And Given Project Name As Myproject.
MyProject Is an Existing project. Still I am not getting that data.
Global!ReportName is Showing ReportName Correctly.

I am using Two date parameters in my report.
If i am using Datetimepicker(For that i declared one parameter of datetime type and one as String and the string parameter is using as parameter in the query.
I Assigned String Date parameter as ="[Date].[Date].&[" + CDate(Parameters!FromCreatedDateCtrl.Value).ToString("s")+ "]"
But the report data is showing wrong.

If i am populating date combobox with dataset. then it is working fine.
But i need to have Datetimepicker instead of List of dates.

Update Bug Rates Report to run off of Week or Month as opposed to Days

Currently two of the filters are start and end date. Could the report be changed to select the months to report on? So the day-dates displayed on the baseline of the report are weeks or months as opposed to days?

I don't know how to GROUP and SUM the dates and open Work Items... Here's my Bug Rates code below.

Intermitent TFS project reporting services error: Cannot create a connection to data source 'TfsOlapReportDS'

Reporting Services occasionally stops responding with the error below. Although we can resolve the issue by restarting our DB server, this is happening often enough that I would like to resolve the issue. The error is:

It appears the issue is with the DB itself. I have confirmed the DB is running, and the other TFS DB on the Database server respond normally. I have viewed the reports on application server (http://<TfsServer>/reports). Although the reports are listed, the same message appears when the report is displayed. The DataSources are listed and are set up correctly. I don't see any relevant exceptions in event viewer. We have tried resolving the issue by restarting the related services on the on the box without success. This may work if the services are restarted in the right order, but so far this has not worked.

BTW, this is a different instance of Sql Server (dbServerName/EtlStaging).

The error seems to be some kind of Key lookup error - previous to this error, we had other errors about not being able to connect to the Analysis service on teh database server - we found it had not started after a reboot and started it. Since then, the previous error has gone and hase been replaced with this one!

TFS2005 - Problem with new reports / Code_x0020_Churn

So, I've been working to get my reports working again and have been able to after rebuilding OLAP. I have my own process template that was working perfectly fine for the past 6 months. In fact, all of the current reports/projects were built from the same exact templates.

However, now when I create a new project it appears they are not being created correctly or something is failing. After creating a new project, I attempted to manually process the warehouse and received this error on the "Code Churn" group:

Errors in the OLAP storage engine: The attribute key cannot be found: Table: Code_x0020_Churn, Column: Changeset, Value: 380. Errors in the OLAP storage engine: The attribute key was converted to an unknown member because the attribute key was not found. Attribute Changeset of Dimension: Changeset from Database: TfsWarehouse, Cube: Team System, Measure Group: Code Churn, Partition: Code Churn, Record: 36663. Errors in the OLAP storage engine: The process operation ended because the number of errors encountered during processing reached the defined limit of allowable errors for the operation. Errors in the OLAP storage engine: An error occurred while processing the 'Code Churn' partition of the 'Code Churn' measure group for the 'Team System' cube from the TfsWarehouse database.

I can confirm the following:

I have verified that the passwords are set
I have rebuilt the warehouse, as this is often the suggested fix
The OLAP and ReportDS appear to be working for existing reports
When I check the status of the Warehouse it reads "Running Adapters"

I could use some help. :(

The Team System cube either does not exist or has been processed

I've not been able to get any reports working. I get the error message that the cube either does not exist or has not been processed. I've ran the rebuild via 'SetupWarehouse' and then ran the web service to run the build. I ran the 'GetWarehouseStatus' method and see it go through different status until idle was displayed but the error is still the same.

I have not had this working since initially installing so I'm not sure what I've done wrong. I've followed all the steps in the troubleshooting, restarting services etc, but nothing seems to work.

I'm using VS 2008 with SQL 2008 and I have a seperate application and data tier.

Any ideas what I can check.

Currently if we deploy reports in Report Server, We can see it with the default report viewer. But in that report viewer default filter conditions are there like Area, Iteration, Priority etc.
But I don't want to apply those filters in my report . is it possoble?

Related (linked) work item query / report

How do I create a query or a report that would group related (linked) work items? I guess its not possible to do it in query but I have a webservice which takes the output from a query and feeds it to a report where I can group by a common field if any. Seems like this would be not too uncommon a request but I didn't find the solution online.

Update: I found the canned 'Related Work Items' report and there is data in the TfsWarehouse db's Related Work Items table but the report doesn't show any WIs. I selected 'Select All' in all the options before running it.

Reporting on user in History

I am trying to do a simple report that given a date range and user, will give me a list of all work items (or even just the number) that user has been assigned to in that date range. Since the history has the data, I thought this would be easy but I don't see how to retreave the information.
I have gone through the "Creating and Customizing TFS Reports", and thought I had found a way to at least get the number using the State change Count but it appears to be only counting state changes while assigned to the user - and that is not what I am looking for.
Could someone give me a clue for where to start?

TFS Reporting on Customized Work Items

So I copied the bugrates.rdl report that's standard with TFS 2008, renamed it to issuerates.rdl and added it to my reporting project. Our Work Items are customized so an Issue has the following states:

Proposed
Active
Development
Ready For Testing
Ready For Production
Closed

So in the IssueRates.rdl file (the one that was formerly bugrates.rdl) I:
1) edited the parameter "Resolved" and made it, "Ready For Testing.
2) edited the parameter "Active" and added "Active" and "Development"
3) edited the parameter "Fixed" and added "Ready For Production" and "Closed"
4) edited the parameter "Bug" and made it "Issue" - since that's what I want to report on.

All the other parameters are the same, again, except for, active, resolved, fixed and bug, and note, I didn't change the "name" of the parameter just the "default values"/"non-queried" items.

The problem is that the report, when executed, shows like this (copy/paste in a new window):

The rest of the report looks OK...

The "Ready For Testing" is all baseline, 0, (the green line)... But that's not accurate there are items set to "Ready For Testing" during the timeframe the report was run!

Exception on Warehouse update on specific changeset

Hi

After having first deleted and then destroyed a large number of items in source control, an exception is showing up in the application eventlog on the AT server. This event refers to a specific changeset.

We're running TFS 2008 SP1.

It's pretty much the same event as I've seen earlier in TFS 2005 where there was a hotfix for the issue. But I have not been able to find anything on this specific issue for TFS 2008 SP1.

If I display the changeset it appears as expected, showing no items as they are destroyed, and no exceptions occur in the eventlog on this occasion. A lot of other changesets were of course in scope for the deleting and destroying actions, but only this one triggers an exception (or is it just the first one...?)

The data warehouse update seems to run ok for everything else.

The destroy commands were run with the /startcleanup parameter

Any feedback on this would be appreciated.

Strange (and annoying) problems with reporting after upgrading to TFS 2008

Since upgrading from TFS 2005 to TFS 2008, I have been plagued with reporting annoyances that I have not been able to solve.

In particular:

I) TFS Warehouse Issues

TFS warehouse was corrupted and throwing errors when accessing reports. I was able to correct it by deleting and rebuilding the warehouse…. Or so I thought. Now I must manually execute the “http://localhost:8080/Warehouse/v1.0/warehousecontroller.asmx” run command in order to recalculate, say, “Bug Rates” or all trends peg at “0” (Active, New, and Resolved).

Rerunning the command generates a boatload of event log errors related to code churn as follows:

II) Alert Report Issues:

The changeset email "alert" seems to be formating differently, with summary information being squished to the far right of the report, making things like comments virtually unreadable (a couple of words per column now).

For example (Summary section Before and After TFS upgrade):

I have no idea what to do about any of this at the moment... any suggestions on how to correct these or proceed?

Bug Rates Report Query More "Active" States

So I have custom work items with the following states:

Proposed - (Considered "Active")
Active - (Considered "Active")
Development - (Considered "Active")
Ready For Testing - (Considered "Resolved")
Ready For Production - (Considered "Resolved")
Closed

The question is, with the Bug Rates report, by default it has a parameter of "Active" which exists in our work items (as you can see above), however, I also need additional parameters to be included with the "Active" parameter in that report. Is it possible? How? Because Active also means "Proposed" and "Development" in addition to Active.

Maybe this will make it easier to understand:

Active = Propose, Active, Development

I need the Bug Rates report to reflect those states as they're also active...

Make sense?

Where to find "Change Type" for changed files

As part of our annual external auditing, we've been tasked to report on any files that have changed since the beginning of the year, and provide tracability back to the original business request for the change, as well as the proof of testing and signoff before deployment to production. I am trying to satify part of this by identifying the changed files. Here's what I started with:

This is great, except that it includes all the files that have changed as a result of branching. In other words, these files didn't really change, they were simply checked in to a new branch.

When I view item history, there's a column that indicates "add", "delete", "edit", "branch", "merge", etc. I'd like to be able to use this value to limit my result set, but I cannot for the life of me figure out where this is stored. It looks like it may only be in the tfsVersionControl database, but where?

If anyone has an answer to this, or can offer ways to answer the general question "What changed and why did it change?" I would appreciate it.

We are have issues with the warehouse in regards to code churn. http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/tfsbuild/thread/6f38d964-55d0-43f5-8e19-6a309ff6a8b7.

After some poking aroung in the TfsWarehouse table I have come accross the changset table that has over 900 rows of data with null for the Changeset field and 0 for the __DimensionMemberActive. Is this expected? I can see that this behavior began Septermber 1st, since all the changesets after that data exhibit this.

Any help would be great. My reports are not looking the best right now :(
