I realize that there is no supported upgrade path from TFS 2010 Beta 1 to TFS 2010 Beta 2. but on one of the TFS Team blogs, I read that it may work and I would like to try it. If someone has gotten it to work, can you please explain what you did? I click setup and get a message that I have to uninstall Team Foundation Server Beta 1 before I can do anything.

Ah.... I'd start out by uninstalling the Beta 1 bits off of that machine.  Keep the databases where they are but just uninstall everything that was installed during Beta 1.  Then you'll be able to install Beta 2 successfully and point them at the existing databases.  Give that a try.

More detail:  The TFS 2010 Beta 2 installer is not going to automatically upgrade/replace/service the pre-existing installed files from the Beta 1 installer.

Correct - there technical was no public "Go-Live" license for TFS 2010 Beta 1 so that prevents anyone from being able to use TFS 2010 Beta 1 in a production environment in a supported way.  There is now a public "Go-Live" license for TFS 2010 Beta 2 now.  Jeff Beehler has a great post about expectations around "Go-Live" and the steps you'll need to take if you want to get support while Beta 2 is out.  It's available here:  http://blogs.msdn.com/jeffbe/archive/2009/10/19/going-live-with-visual-studio-2010-beta-2.aspx

However, I have heard of a few people who have been able to successfully upgrade Beta 1 instances to Beta 2.

Do you know how they got it to work or can you refer me to a blog where someone may have mentioned it? I'm not even able to get it started because of the dialog box that checks whether I have Beta 1 installed. Thanks in advance for your help.

Do you have a screenshot of this dialog box?  Are you referring to something that occurs when you are running the "Upgrade" portion of the wizard in the TFS Configuration utility?

Hi Doug, you can find the TFSInstall.chm file in the TFS Beta 2 iso, in the root directory. The "Upgrading Team Foundation Server" chapter describes the steps you should follow, and that chapter says: "You can upgrade from an earlier version of Visual Studio Team Foundation Server. In Beta2, we support an upgrade from Team Foundation Server 2008 with or without Service Pack 1 (SP1), Team Foundation Server 2005 with SP1, and Beta1 of the current product. "

That's the good news. The bad news is that sharepoint web sites and reports will not work, you have to fix the issues manually. All the solutions can be found within this forum.

    I uninstalled TFS 2010 Beta 1 and .Net 4.0.
    I then installed TFS 2010 Beta 2.
I ran the "Upgrade" portion of the Wizard in the TFS Configuration Utility.
I set the database to point to the existing database.
    It worked perfectly.
