After finishing my installation I was left with this error message.  The link provided just takes me to a windows 7 page.  I'm running this on a W2k3 server.

TF255395: SharePoint configuration failed. This step will be skipped. For more information about how to troubleshoot configuring SharePoint for use with Team Foundation Server, see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=164415&clcid=0x409

    Hi Lou,

Can you gather up the logs and send them to me?  My email alias is my first name + mac

This pinned forum posts outlines how to grab the logs: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/tfsprerelease/thread/b97d47ac-21f0-451e-9dcf-bb6730cea596

That go link is going to provide step by step guidance on how to bind sharepoint and TFS after the fact using the admin console.  There's a link with the contents of that and I'll find that and reply soon.

    Thanks
    Bryan

I experienced the same exact  problem (and a non-relevant link). As suggested by Brian I opened the log file and found an error related to the user account used by WSS. I then rembered I forgot to give the TFSREPORTS service account the "Allow log on locally" permission. Granting the user account  the correct permission and running the  "TFS Extensions for Windows SharePoint Services" configuration wizard seem to correct the problem.

Suggestion: clicking on the "Check" button in the form where the Service account is specified should verify required permission are set as expected.

How do you get into the "TFS Extensions for Windows SharePoint Services"?
  • Thursday, November 05, 2009 3:08 PMDavid Beaumier Users MedalsUsers MedalsUsers MedalsUsers MedalsUsers Medals

You can access the configuration wizard by starting the Setup from the DVD and select the "Configure" option or follow the steps below

To access the Team Foundation Server Configuration tool from the Start menu

    1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Team Foundation Server 2010 Beta 2, and then click Team Foundation Administration Console.
    2. The Team Foundation Administration Console appears.

    3. Click Application Tier, and then click Configure Installed Features.

The Team Foundation Server Configuration tool appears.

    Then

To configure Team Foundation Server Extensions for Windows SharePoint Services

    1. In the Team Foundation Server Configuration tool, click Extensions for SharePoint Products and Technologies and then click Start Wizard.
    2. The Team Foundation Server SharePoint Extensions Configuration wizard appears.

    3. Click Configure. If an error message appears, address any problems in the message, and then click Continue.
    4. Click Close.

The Team Foundation Administration Console appears.

When I click Application Tier there's no "Configure Installed Features".  I even got a co-worker to look to make sure I'm not losing it.   Is it buried somewhere else?

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. Hit this snag and can't find this option.  Might I be losing it too? ;o)

Anyone have any luck with this? I am running TFS2010 single-server on Win2k8 SP2.  I did forget to add the allow log on locally permission, but have since corrected it and would like a crack at this feature.

    I got the same issue. TFS2010 beta2 Win20008 SP2 SQL 2008 SP1. Something terribly wrong with this beta2.
Permissions are OK and I even tried to change Sharepoint.exe file like suggested here (why  not to supply the right version?) . Also, DefaultAppPool identity is already set to NetworkService. Am I missing something else?

Please, help- I already spent the whole day in different installation scenarios without any visible success.

    Best regards,
    Michael

Is there another way to get at "Configure Installed Features"?  It's definitely not in my version of the console...

Was your installation successful with out any errors/warning?

I also like to see the log files.

I did setup TFS 2010 beta 2 single server on Windows 2008 with SQL 2008 and MOSS 2007. First I followed - > SQL->MOSS->TFS. Faced some problem with mapping default project collection site with TFS as I did not configure MOSS completedy. I am new to MOSS based environment. Earlier versions were on WSS.

In the second attempt I installed MOSS after installing TFS, but configured it completely before configuring TFS. If you use test/verify options where ever available in the TFS wizard, you can find out whats going wrong and then correct it.

Separating the configuration part from the installation job is the great thing the product team have done in TFS 2010. Now the IT department only need to click on setup and choose the features to install - simple job! During configuration, you can decide what to have and where to have.

James, David already posted that and it doesn't work for me.  When I click on "Application Tier" there is no option for me.  However when I clicked on the next node "Proxy server" I do get it; however, this tool does not let me run the "Configure Team Foundation Application Server" there's just a checkmark next to it and everything is greyed out.  I'm hoping that this wasn't intended to be re-runnable.

    Guys,

Maybe you'll have to re-run the setup again to install the SharePoint Extensions. You can do that this way: Control Panel -> Programs -> Select TFS 2010 -> Click on Unistall/Change -> Click Next on the first screen -> Click Add or Remove Features and select the "Extensions for SharePoint Products".

If not working I suggest you reinstall TFS from the same Wizard (using the Repai/Reinstall option).

On one case I had to go through a Repair/Reinstall to correct some issues caused by the fact my laptop when to sleep while installing TFS on a VM... It corrected everything, including some SharePoint issues. TFS 2010 Setup is much more easier and reliable than previous version.

    Good luck!

    David

Does it mean that you do  not have a running sharepoint service(WSS/MOSS)? If not try setting up one and then TFS config wizard.

If re-installation can be considered, I would suggest you to go for a clean installation after installing WSS/MOSS.
It is always good to have a working SQL(DB,Analysis and Reporting) and WSS/MOSS before you install TFS.

G K, as far as I can tell I have sharepoint.  I can't re-run the TFS config to set up sharepoint service per my previous post.  I reran the installation per David and the error I got that time is in my reply.

Lou, I only see 2 warnings in the log and no error. From the installation Wizard (on the completion page I think) it is possible to open the log. From there you should be able to find an entry describing the error encountered during the setup.

    Hi,

I'm trying to install TFS2010 beta 2 (single server instance) and have the same problem.
The 'configure"-step in the TFS Configuration wizard fails for the "SharePoint Products Configuration" with following error.

"TFS255395: SharePoint configuration failed. This step will be skipped."
When I open the log (link on the config page), I can find following warnings:

The application log of the EventViewer reports the following

SQL Database 'WSS_Config' on SQL Server instance 'TFS2010-B2' not found. Additional error information from SQL Server is included below.
Cannot open database "WSS_Config" requested by the login. The login failed.
    Login failed for user 'PGX\tfsservice'.

In the TFS Administration Console, there are no Service Accounts for SharePoint Web Applications.
When I try to add the PGX\tfsservice account, I get following error.
"Sync error for identity: System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity, S-1-xxxxx - Login failure"

The PGX\tfsservice account has the db_owner role for all WSS databases (WSS_Config, WSS_Content, WSS_AdminContent)

I have tried installation several times (after having uninstalled TFS, WSS and removing TFS and WSS tables in SQL), but the error keeps returning.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks
