Calling PS Script from Batch File Renders: 'Get-TfsWorkspace' is not recognized as a cmdlet

I'm creating an automation script for a client and one of the steps of the automation is to get some information about the current workspace that the script is running within. I use the Get-TfsWorkSpace to obtain this information. When I run this script from within an open PowerShell window the script runs as I expect.

However ... as soon as I place this into a batch file such as "go.bat" which has the following in it:

powershell.exe -noexit "C:\Development\Path\To\MyFile\go.ps1"

I receive the following:

The term 'Get-TfsWorkspace' is not recognized as a cmdlet, function, operable program, or script file. Verify the term and try again.

I assume this has to do with some type of context that powershell is running within? Does anyone know? I'm at a loss here.

Custom Action after "Get Latest Version"?

Hello,
is it somehow possible to define a custom action (e.g. running a program) after getting the latest version of code from TFS via Visual Studio?
I was thinking about a VS Add-In that modifies or replaces the "get latest version" menu entry. Is that possible?

Security error while installing Power Tools on Windows 2008 Server with TFS 2008: Error 1316: A network error occured while attempting to read from the file c:\users\\desktop\tfpt[1].msi

I downloaded the install for the power tools to the desktop (also tried this in the root of C and other folders). But when I run the power tools installation and select the Analyzer to be included in the install I get an error below:

Error 1316: A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file c:\users\<myfolder>\desktop\tfpt[1].msi and just leaves me with an OK button and the install never finishes.

Then, I just decided to completely uninstall the previous installation and try it again. This time I get a different error. All it says in the dialog is Error 1001. Thanks Microsoft!

I'm local admin on the box and UAC is disabled. So can't you install this on 2008 Server? It installs just fine when I ran it on my Vista desktop so what gives? Can you not run this on Windows 2008 Server? I'd hardly doubt you can't.

Note: I have local Admin rights, not Domain Admin. I should not need Domain Admin rights just to install this and so I want to figure out why I can't install this with just local admin and figure out why I get this error. It's a simple install you'd think!

Work Item Tracking icons disappear

I noticed this morning, when going to refresh a work Item query that all the icons on the "Work Item Tracking - Results View" toolbar were missing with the exception of the 'Open' icon. The command buttons seem to function normally just the graphic is missing. ("Work Item Tracking - Query View" has the same issue, only the 'Open' icon remains)

I checked all the usual resource related causes and rebooted for good measure. Still no icons.

The only change I've made to my enviroment lately is installing the Oct 2008 PowerTools, so I uninstalled the Power Tools and voila, and the icons returned. I then went ahead and installed PowerTools Oct 2008 again, fired up VS 2008 and they are gone again.

I'm pretty sure the icons were there after the initial install of Oct 2008 PowerTools, and have seen some co-workers install it without the icons disappearing (at least initially).

I suspect that there is some local configuation kicking around somewhere since on the subsequent install the "Collaboration" provider was already set to "none" as I had done after the initial install.

I'd like to try resetting the configuration if I knew where it was.

Any ideas?

Alerts in July release

Hi,

I just installed the July 2008 Power Tools version (the VS 2008 SP1 and TFS 2008 SP1 was already installed on the server) and with the release I got among other things the Alerts "folder" in every team project. But I cannot use the folder. The folder is marked with a red cross (used when you do not have sufficient rights). What am I missing? I have domain admin rights on the server and I am logged in with the same user that installed the tool. On first Team Explorer start after the July Power Tool installation, I got an error that one library could not be loaded (some PowerTools package). I set that it should not load the package. Could that be the cause that I can not access the alerts folder? Or am I missing some other tool that I need to configure alerts?

Change Custom Work Item Field to Reportable

I want to change the Reportable value of a custom work item field from None to Dimension. When I bring up the FIeld Definition dialog for this field the Reportable field is disabled. Can I change this value for existing custom fields, or will I have to readd the custom field with the correct reportable value?

Save Error in Alerts Editor

In the Alerts Editor, when I select the “Browse…” button, I am able to select a user from the list. This of course puts them in the “Send To:” field in the format of “lastName, firstName;”. When I try to save the alert, I get the following error.

“Error in Save: Could not find email for user ‘lastName’. Please click Ok to correct the error or Cancel to ignore the changes.”

I have played around with the formatting and the comma being used to delimiter the last and first name, and it is starting to look like a bug with the Alerts Editor. If you remove the comma between the first and last name, the error will read, “Could not find email for ser ‘lastName firstName’.”

Does anyone know a fix/workaround to this? I know that I can manually type the email I want in the “Send To” field, but obviously, this is not optimal.

     The user’s email addresses are in AD.
    Windows Server 03 SP2
    SQL Server 05 SP2
    Team Foundation Server 2008 SP1

Build Notification tool Authentication

In our enviroment we use a sperate domain for out foundation server, thus all our users have to enter creds when opening vs, is their a way to pass the creds into the build notifacation tool so it can authenticate against our tfs server and work.

A few things to note,

1) we do not have the ability to perform a run as on the exe due to the configuration of the trust between the two domains

2) we are ok with not haveing to enter creds for the notifacation tool

I installed the "October" power tools and get the following error when I attempt to right click on a team node under the Team Members Node and click Team Settings:

My best guess is that the projectUri needs to be set in the config file, but I'm not sure where it goes and what it should be. Any idea? Here is my config file:

Load information in a field depending on what I choose in other field

Hello everyone,

I have a WIT and in this WIT I need to programm a dropdown box 'A' that contains certain key words, when I select a word in the dropdown box 'A' the dropdown box 'B' will be load with information just the word I selected in dropdown box 'A', but if select a different word in the dropdown box 'A' dropdown box 'B' will be load with different information.

E.I.: Dropdown box 'A' contains the following information: administration, development and support
If I select in 'A' Development, 'B' will be loaded with: Visual Studio, SQL Server, Oracle
but,
If I select in 'A' Support, 'B' will be loaded with: Perfect Tracker, VMWare, Microsoft Office

I really apreciate if you know where I can find information or documentation that guides me to do that. I have the Process Template Editor but eventhough I have been making tests to get this done I have not be able to achive it.

Creating a User Activity Report in TFS

I have recently taken over as TFS admin, and my boss asked for a complete user activity report for a specific user across multiple projects. The old TFS admin showed me a GUI option before he left. I thought this was a power toy, but I cannot seem to find it now. Can someone point me in the right direction? Or if the only way to do this is through a SQL query please let me know that too.

I just installed the TFS Power tools for 2008 and the looked at the check in history fro a team member that I suspected had never checked any thing in. Henceforth whenever I looked at the history for any file I got the error 'No history entries were found for the item and version combination specified.'
I was able to over come this error by looking at my check in history.
What is going on? I believe I am seeing the entire history as when I look at the history of file or folder modified by some one else I see their historic check ins but I remain somewhat disconcerted.

This may be an idiotic question... but which system would i install the MSSCCI and TFS 2008 Power Tools?

Data Tier of the TFS Server, Application Tier of the TFS Server, or on a system with VS 2008 system?

I have all 3 in a separate system. Please help.

TFS 2008 does not necessarily require the Team Explorer and I know that I would need Team Explorer on VS 2008 system... but the requirements of the power tool is Team Explorer. I am trying to limit the installation on each system... but if it is elaborated for me which system this is required to be installed on... would be great.

The installation instruction on MS Download specifies the requirements... but since all 3 system communicates in harmony... it kinda getting confusing... so in a sense; each system actually collaborates and is meeting system requirements.

WIndows 7 - Cannot install Power Tools 2008

When trying to install the Team Foundation Server Power Tools 2008 on my x64 Windows 7...it gives me an error saying that .NET 2.0 is not installed and setup cannot continue.

Being that .NET 2.0 is part of the Windows 7 installation...how do I get around this? I can't check stuff into TFS right now because of the missing check-in policy items that I need from this.

...and, yes, I have tried running it in compatibility mode...and that didn't help.

Thanks for the great power tools. Any new news on the next release? Today I again ran into the desire to View History from explorer and so I thought I'd see if there's any new news. The last thread I found on this was a year ago http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/tfspowertools/thread/3d6c8f06-8df8-433f-a9e3-ea7ac2957bc9/ and seemed to indicate this feature was just around the corner.

Process editor is not updating

I am creating a customized process template. I downloaded the MSF Agile 4.2 process template and changed the name and so on.
I wanted to add some queries and some default work items.
The first change I make after loading the ProcessTemplate.xml is saved just fine. But when I proceed doing other changes these changes are not saved.
After saving the Process Editor asks to reload the Template as it seems to have changed outside the editor, the changes are still cached somehow (changes visible in the process editor) but the changes are not persisited in the xml files.
For example when I try to delete a query, the corresponding .wiq file is remaining and the entry in the workitems.xml file is still there.

I am using VS2008 Team Suite SP1 and Power Tools October 2008

Does anyone else have this problem or knows what causes this problem?

How to get changeset number from TFS 2008

Dear I want to get the code from source control by using changeset numbers in TFS 2008. I want to know if any utility or source code is available so that I can easily develop or use existed code of utility. Actually I have some requirements related to get the changeset which are developer mark in TFS source Code.

I need to develop utility by using following requirements.

TFS Server Name (for establishing a connection)

TFS User Name

TFS password

TFS Team Project Name

Changeset #

The utility have a button "Get source code" that will get only those files that are being checked in under a changeset #.

If anybody have this kind of utility or have any idea agaist it. Please let me know or help me.

Changing Display Name in AD

Hi,

I am using power tool. How to: Update Display Names in Team Foundation Using TFSUsers

The display name has been changed in AD and i can see the changed display name already in TFS.

When i run "tfsusers computedelta /server:<servername> /folder:<folderpath>

I ended up with this warning:

Hi

Some time ago, someone showed me a web application that was monitoring the build status on TFS. The application was simple, there was only one page displaying e.g. the number of warnings, errors and the name of the user who did the most recent check in. If there were exceptions, the background was red, warnings - yellows and successful build - green.

The purpose is to display it on a common project status monitor to make the team members more aware of the build status.

Can you help me to remember this application?

Hi All,

I have been using alerts for long time and it helps me alot to monitor anybody overriding the policy. so if anyone checks-in code to Any project and overrides the pollicy it sends me an email. (this is working great).

Now i want to create another alert So that , if anybody cheks-in code and assigns the changeset to already "closed" workitem, i want it to trigger an alert to me.
Can anyone please suggent me how ot create one like this. M sure it mus be preety simple but i cant find the options. BTW i am working on TFS 2008 version with POwer Tools installed.

fsComProviderSvr.exe stopped working

Hello everyone,

I believe Im in right place for this kind of question.As you can see from title of thread I have very annoying issue with Power tools I installed recently.
I get this APPCRASH about TfsComProviderSvr.exe like 200 times and as long as I can see TfsSHELExt.dll is injected in explorer.exe and also in windows live and in couple of other processes in my opinion this is the main cause of error.Fault module is KERNEL32.DLL I suppose there is some problem with loading some dll or some other I really didnt have enough time to put this through Windbg and see what is going on.

I will be really grateful if someone have solution for this one since I need those tools to be installed on my box and error is so annoying and sometimes pops up too many times a day :)

CustomControls distribution

Hello,

I need to enable the automatic distribution of CustomControls using the Power Tools capabilities

As I have read, once you have installed Power Tools, a new "special" folder called $/<TeamProject>/TeamProjectConfiguration appears. In this folder I have to copy the customcontrol's dll and wicc files.

However, I don’t see this folder.

I have tried creating it manually, but when I try to download the CustomControls it doesn’t works.

Am I doing something wrong?

How to customize behaviors on Team Foundation Check In Policy "Work Items"?

Hello, I have a Team Foundation Project which has check-in policy "Work Items" activated.

Is it possible to customize some of the behaviros, for example:

1) When I try to check in a file in Team Foundation without any Work Item associated, Policy Failure window appears with "Override policy failure and continue checkin" option.
Is it possible to disable this option? (not show in the message window, gray out, etc)

2) When a Work Item selected upon checkin, default Check-in Action value is "Resolve" in the drop down list box.
Can this be changed so that "Associate" is the default value?

3) We configured Work Item Type (Defect, and we only use Defect right now) to require certain fields to be required when being resolved.
Is it possible to automatically populate the check-in comment into the Defect's Resolution Text (one of the required fields)??

tfpt rollback not working

Hello,

I'm trying to use the TFS Power Toys tool to rollback some changesets to see if a bug was occurring before they were checked in.

I have a couple workspaces, one that has my changes and another one that's supposed to be identical to what's checked in. In order to make sure that my workspace is identical to what's checked into tfs I ran:

tfpt scorch /noprompt

I then ran a batch file that calls a dozen or so commands like:

tfpt rollback/changeset:1234
tfpt rollback/changeset:1235
tfpt rollback/changeset:1236

etc.

However, each one of them is returning a:

Cannot proceed because you have pending changes in your workspace. You must move to a shelveset, undo, or check in all p
ending changes before reverting a changeset.

I wondered if my batch file itself was making tfs "think" that I had changes in my workspace, so I moved it outside my workspace and added a cd \myworkspaceroot command at the top of it.

So my batch file now looks like:
cd \myworkspaceroot
tfpt scorch /noprompt
tfpt uu
tfpt rollback/changeset:1234
tfpt rollback/changeset:1235
tfpt rollback/changeset:1236

etc.

The tfpt scorch command in the above batch file is returning:
Walking C:\myworkspaceroot\soft1 ... found 2
Walking C:\myworkspaceroot\soft2 ... found 7
Checking the status of 5 individual items... done
Checking the status of 2 directories, recursively... done
No inconsistencies found.

The tfpt uu returns:

Bringing the workspace up to the latest version...
Getting the list of pending changes for your workspace...
Building the list of redundant changes...
There are no redundant pending changes.

all of the tfpt rollback /changeset:mychangesetnumber look like:

Any idea why tfpt rollback is failing when run immediately after a scorch and a tfpt uu?

Where did my TFS Windows Shell extension icons go?

I have the latest TFPT installed but after doing some configuration changes in Team Explorer I have lots my Windows Explorer TFS status icons. I can still right click on files that are in my workspace and the Team Foundation Server context menu shows up, but the icons are gone. I have tried repairing the Power Tools installation, restarting Windows, but no luck. There aren't any configuration settings for these icons anywhere are there?

removing unwanted members in allowed fields from the Process Editor-->Work Item Field Explorer in TFS 2008

I have unwanted members in the String Collection Editor that I would like to remove. These are coming from deleted projects and removed work items. The Add and Remove buttons are disabled in the String Collection Editor. I am set up as an Admin in Team Foundation, I am not an Admin on the server it is running on.

ex. I created a Team Project named: AgileDevProject this was deleted with TFSDeleteProject, site Sharepoint site removed. This project no longer shows up when I try "Add Existing Team Project" in Team Explorer. But if I go to Tools->Process Editor->Work Item Field Explorer select System.TeamProject click the elipsis on Allowed Values and the String Collection Editor opens the project I deleted is still there.

How do I /can I get rid of these unwanted members? I have deleted the projects, deleted the work items, etc... but they continue to persist. I understand there is history to these so if I cannot get rid of them is there a way to hide them?

COM error with power tools/team members with Messenger and XP

When loading the power tools with Windows messenger under XP get the following error:

Creating an instance of the COM component with CLSID {B69003B3-C55E-4B48-836C-BC5946FC3B28} from the IClassFactory failed due to the following error: 8007000e.

This is related to windows messager.

For Vista the solution is to run the msnmsgr.exe as admin (select the Compatibility tab. Select 'Run this program as an Administrator".)

TF84037 Issue

Hello guys,

I'm also having this TF84037 error when trying to 'export' work items from team explorer to Excel.
I tried almost everything but with no results:
1. Tried re-install .NET Programmability Support in office (also tried un-installign and then re-installing) I looked here http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/tfssetup/thread/ffe88497-72bf-469d-880b-a2974d0e0e4e - and nothing.
2. Tried uninstall .NET Programmability Support, uninstall team explorer, install .NET Programmability Support , install Team explorer and the SP1 - nothing..
3.remove office completely, install Office again, repair team explorer - nothing...(!?!)

I have Office 2003, VS 2008 +SP1, nothing seems to be helpful and I'm stuck :-(
Other developers in my company also havng this problem.

Error with Process Editor

Has anyone faced this problem, if so what is the solution.

After installing 'Process Editor' it was working fine and was able to edit task WIT. At some point it stops working and gives the error message when 'task' is selected for a particular project from the 'Select Work Item Type' window, 'Tools > Process Editor > Work Item Types > Open WIT from Server. In fact the error appears for any work item type, not just 'task'.

Hello everyone. Using blogs and intetnet i have created a simple WCF service which listens for WorkItemChangedEvent. I have deployed it using bissubscribe. And everything was fine. However, after some time I found out, that my service do not process some work items changes. It seems to me that if a large amount of text has been added to, for example, history field, my WCF service failes to execute.

I don't know where is a problem. I can't trace it or debug. I'm a newbie...

Please help.

Modifiying TFS Work Item Type in Excel

Hi folks

I have some TFS work items which have been saved using the wrong work item template - I want to modify these work items in Excel so that they now are using the correct work item template - the difference between the correct and incorrect templates is only the naming so the structures are similar between both.
When I import the items into Excel the Work Item Type field is set as Read-Only - is there any way to do get around this?

Any help appreciated.

What is the underlying reason for the Reconcile option *not* to be available when comparing two server folders?

Woundn't it be nice to be able to compare two server folders and easily transfer changes from one to another?

When I run TFSusers for the very first time it runs fine and produced the following output:

Hi,

We have created some workitem alerts that intended to be send to multiple users user1, user2, user3.

In the alert email, it is sending emails to user1,2,3 individually. We would like it to send common email for all users by specifying all user id's in To: field of email at once, so that it will be easier to do communication by replying all. Is there anyway to make this happen?
