    Hi All

I need to know, if I can move all TFS Work Items, belonging to a TFS Project to a new project, retaining the Work Item IDs of the former.
I have tried using Eric Lee's Work Items Moving Tool (http://blogs.msdn.com/ericlee/archive/2006/11/20/work-item-moving-tool-is-back.aspx), to move all the WIs. This tool moves all the WIs easily and is very handy as well, but does not retain the WI IDs. After moving the WIs, this tool create new IDs.

The idea is to move all the WIs from development TFS projects to a new TFS project for easy tracking and so, retaining WI IDs is very much important.

    Thanks

    Hi Achayan_SMJ,

    Thank you for your post.

For ID field in TFS Work Items, it is incremental. This means that the data is automatically generated and stored in Database. When we move one project to a new one, the date will be generated increasingly. Thus, as far as I know, we cannot retain the ID in this scenario. It's by design.

If we want to change the ID manually, we can do it. However, the ID field relates to several data tables in Database. We had better not to change it so that we can keep TFS to work well.

Hope this helps! If you have any concern, please feel free to let me know.

    Best regards,
