Hi,
I have system with Microsoft team foundation server (TFS) 2005 , Visual studio 2005 plus Microsoft SQL server 2005 . Now I planned to migrate our central repository system to VS 2010 and TFS 2010 .We will use fresh TFS server to same purpose.
My requirement is to use files from SQL server 2005 (in TFS 2005) in new server with TFS 2010/ SQL server 2010 .
Please kindly explain the procedure to follow to perform this task . Also please mention if there is any limitations of this process.
Thanks and Regards,
Lalindu

Hi Lalindu,
Thanks for your post.
We usually configure SQL Server 2008 R2 with TFS 2010, so I suggest you install the SQL Server 2008 R2 for your new TFS 2010 Server.
For how to upgrade from TFS 2005 to TFS 2010, please refer to this blog: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/bharry/archive/2009/10/21/upgrading-from-tfs-2005-2008-to-tfs-2010.aspx and this blog(TFS 2008 similar to TFS 2005): http://blog.hinshelwood.com/upgrading-team-foundation-server-2008-to-2010/.

Hi John,
Thank you very much for your reply .
I still need little more clarification .
As you listed above, both your examples guide only trough upgrading TFS 2008 /2005 to TFS 2010 while SQL server (2008) remains unchanged -> In both situations explained to transfer backups form SQL server 2008 in TFS 2005/2008 to SQL server 2008 in TFS 2010 .
Hence in this parallel process I want small clarifications on the way to transfer data backup files from SQL server 2005 (in TFS 2005) in new server with TFS 2010 ,SQL server 2008/2010 .will that be compatible ?. will there be any limitations \ drawbacks? .
Thanks and Regards,
Lalindu

Hi Lalindu,
Thanks for your reply.
As far as I know, there’s no drawbacks, please refer to this similar post: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/tfsadmin/thread/27321d9d-b6ea-4ff8-8dca-742d7ec89f46/.
Please note that: make the full backup for your TFS 2005 before do any upgrade operation.
