DLLs are not copying while merging or branching

Hi All,
I am using TFS 2008 on Windows 2008.

I created a branch from main root but teh DLLs from main branch are not available in branch. When i compare both the branches, i do not find any differences.
So i need to manually copy the dlls from root to branch in local and then add to source control. What is the issue ?
Dlls are not copying same as in merging case.

Email Alert not working in TFS 2008

Hi,

I want to send email notification to teh users when any bug is opened and assigned to them and if any bug state is changed to resolve.

I created 2 alerts for it using Visual Studio under team..alert editor.

Now after chaging teh state or opening a bug, no mail alert is going.

Do i need to set any settings manually?

I am able to send any work item manually using Send mail option of Team System Web Access.

Hoping I can get some help troubleshooting these issues? Not sure if they're related?

I'm getting 2 common errors for SOME TFS users, many users are fine, but some have access problems when using TSWA or accessing project folders like 'Documents'

The first error when logging into TSWA with some users (seem to be local server accounts) I get the following error

"Unable to create WorkItemStore see inner exception for details."

Looking at the HTML source I get the following details:

TF201072: A user or group could not be found. Verify that the users and groups used in your work item type definition have been added to Team Foundation Server. ---> System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: RebuildCallersViews: Connecting Domain User could not be validated. ---> RebuildCallersViews: Connecting Domain User could not be validated. ---> RebuildCallersViews: Connecting Domain User could not be validated.

The second error is more common for SOME users, the error is consistent for users experiencing it (i.e. User1 always gets this error, but user2 doesn't get it ever?). They can't access the Sharepoint website directly either?

Error on TSWA Documents tab:The permissions granted to user User1 are insufficient to perform this operation

The details are:

How to Restore DBs from another system into TFS2008 SP1?

I have a set of developers that just got back from one of the Microsoft offices doing POC work there. Microsoft sent them home with a set of *.bak files from the TFS instance they were connect to there as part of the Domain. I am trying to figure out how to restore this in a manner that you could then get back at the files. I have a TFS2008 VPC with SQL on it that I am trying to restore these files to

Running TFS2008. Installed VS2008. Did Updates. TFS stopped working.

I'm afraid I don't even have enough information to fully describe the problem, so patients and any help is appreciated.

We are running TFS2008 Workgroup on a Windows 2003 machines. We are facing a needle in a haystack. The machine has been running for several months without restarting. Yesterday we installed VS 2008 w/ SP1. Restarted. This morning there over 50 updates. Afterward we attempted to connect to TFS and connection failed. The event log on the server says: "Team Foundation Core Web Service Application shut down. The application is being shutdown for the following reason: HostingEnvironment".

We don't know if this is a result of the recent install and updates, environmental or network changes, or a corruption that happened a while ago but is only coming to light because we rebooted. We have uninstalled VS2008 and are in the process of removing any and all updates, but to-date we still receive the same error.

Is there any fix/patch that can fix the above error when people try and get to Team Foundation in the web client? I know that a work around is to go to the TF server, IIS, expand the app pool, recycle the tswa app pool and then delete the contents of the web cache folder. The problem is this has been happening alot recently and it is getting annoying.

If anyone can provide some type of fix or suggestion that would be great.

Hello,

I am using VS 2008 Team System SP1 with Team Foundation Server 2008.
I would like to set Continuous Integration on my project. I have a problem to set "Testing Policy" on the check-in.

My unit test is set as "Passed" when I queue it on my computer. Then, I add it in a test list through a vsmdi file. But, when I check-in my code, this error message is displayed :

TF10139 : The following check-in policies have not been satisfied.
Check-in test did not pass

Policy Failure : Checkin cannot proceed because policy requirements have not been satisfied.

Has anyone already seen this problem?

Can FxCop`s rules set be imported to TFS ?

My firm used FxCop to check source code in the past. So we have had some Rules Set like Standard.Fxcop, Urgent.Fxcop, Performance.Fxcopt... Depending projects' needs, we use those existing Rules Set differently and do not need to set rules everytime.
Here's question.
Now We use checkin policy in TFS , but it is so bother me to set rules in checkin policy when projects are different. I know TFS has the same source code checking engin with FxCop. I wonder if I can just import those FxCop Rules Set to TFS checkin policy . . And I should have to say I am not asking for customize rules. Is there a way to import Rules Set or export Rules Set.

TFS 2005 new Administrator

Hi,
Our previous administrator of TFS 2005 left the company. I have administrator access to the box where TFS 2005 is installed but when I tried to add my account to the TFS admin group I get an error that I don't have the proper rights. I know this is fault because we should use security groups instead of individual account. I can not enable the previous admin user account again. So I will appreciate your advice how to solve this issue.

TFS Version 2 Insists that it is PST and it is EST here! All documents show that they were uploaded 3 hours before they actually were.

All files that get uploaded into this TFS environment are getting time stamped 3 hours before they were uploaded.

I have looked all over in Central admin, and cannot find a place to change this setting.

The system clock for the web server is set correctly.

I am at a loss at finding the place I can change this so that the times are recorded correctly.

Unit Tests fail when added to builds

Hi.

I've created three simple unit tests. All three pass when I run them from the Test list editor.

I included them in a build definition so that they run whenever I run the build definition.

When the build completes, the build is only partially successful because the tests have failed.

Why do the tests pass whn run on their own but fail in the Build?

This is an example of one of the tests that fail when included in the build:

Team Foundstion Proxy Service unexpectedly shuts down on a regular

Recently one of our Team Fouundation Server Proxy Servers has recently started shutting down regularly and i cannot make any haedway into finding out why.

The server is runing TFS2008 SP1 and every 15 minutes or so just stops with the following message in the eventlog.

"The VSTF Proxy Server stopped at <>. The application is being shutdown for the following reason: HostingEnvironment. For more information ....."

I have tried Google and Bing to no avail. Does anyone know what could cause this error ?

The proxy server is TFS2008 SP1 connected to a TFS2008SP1 server. The machines are in different domains and the proxy is not using the standard port whereas the main server is.

TF223000 error when new project is created

I start having this problem after one of the trusted domain has been disconnected. We have TFS server installed in resource domain and we have several account domains. And of the account domain has been disconnected. We started having event log that say that there is a problem of synchronizing TFS group and ActiveDirectory. I removed all account from that domain from global security groups and these errors disappeared. But Now I'm not able to create new TFS project. Please help me.

BuildStatusChangeEvent firing on its own?

I noticed strange phenomenon from my TFS installation today. We have about 100 projects under TFS and TFS app tier and TFS Deployer sit on separate boxes. TFS Deployer does deployment to all three environments (Dev, Test and Prod) using single powershell script file and project based deployment config. files. About 5 TFS projects kept deploying every two hours all night with no one changing Build quality via build explorer. One of the projects was getting deployed to production environment, so this had to be stopped. I restarted the TFS deployer service and recycled the app pool behind Team Foundation server web site and the anomaly went away.

Any ideas what might cause this? I’ve checked the event subscriptions for TFS and build server (the one that has TFS deployer installed) is subscribing to BuildStatusChangeEvent on port 8899.

How to retrieve Docs from deleted TFS Sharepoint site?

I have a TFS 2008 SP1 installation. I have a user that has deleted the site of a site of a site collection. During that delete some docs were lost that I now need to retrieve. I am able to get the TFS database backups specifically the STS_Content_TFS and STS_Config_TFS DBs. I am thinking that I can create a new WSS web app, restore my STS_Content_TFS db under a new name and attach it to my new web App. Doing this all on a test instance of TFS2008 or a VPC.
Can anyone tell me more about how exactly to achieve that? can I do all of this from within the Central Admin site of WSS? by just creating a new application and pointing it to my newly restored DBs? Creating this new web app would create it right next to my existing Dev TFS Application without affecting it would it not?

On the project portal, under Site Settings , Customization / Modify site content :

I can only see the document libraries and i cannot see any of the sub-folders which i was created before inside these document libraries.

I need to set different permissions for different user groups on the sub-folders

for example: if we have sub-folder called "Test ", and we have 3 user groups we need to give the following permissions on this folder:

User Group 1: Read
User Group 2: Read/Write
User Group 3: Hide (i don't want this group to see this folder at all, but they still can see other folders)

Migrating from Multiple Team Projects

I'm in development shop with 8 scrum teams (4-7 people each) all working on the same software suite. Previously we have had multiple TFS team projects for the different product areas within the suite. This arrangement has caused us a variety of problems, mostly from a collaboration and reporting point of view.

Our plan is to move all teams into only one TFS team project. We have already created a much needed new CM/branch-plan that we believe will support all the teams in this one TFS team project (it is based on MS branching guidance documents).

The question is, what reasons are there against using one TFS team project in this fashion? I am already aware of one problem: all developers who are given build permissions, will have those permissions for every build definition. That is not desireable, but we can live with that. What other problems does the community think we will encounter?

Setting up tests to run with a build

Hi,

I'm trying to set up tests to run with TFS Builds.
In the vsmid file, I've set up a list of the tests to be run.
In the Build definition I've chosen the vsmdi file & checked the particular list of tests to be run.

When I run the build, on completion it says # number of tests have been run but 0 passed & 0 failed.

Is there something I'm doing wrong? Must I use an ordered test to do this or a test list should do the trick?
Are there any steps I am y have missed or does this sound about right?

Branch/merge Reference lost

Say.. I have two branches A and B. B was branched from A.

I have a file, Test.cs, in branch A which has a merge references so when you right click on the file it'll give you a location to merge.
A developer deleted Test.cs and then added back Test.cs in the same location; however, at this point Test.cs has lost merge reference and when merged, the Target Branch in merge window is blank.

How do I link the files again in two branches?

Assigning User Permissions

I think I need to simplify this question, doesn't seem to be going over well here.

When adding users to a group, is there any way to limit who the TFS admin can add to that group? As it stands, a user is simply chosen out of Active Directory. It would be preferrable that not all users in Active Directory were available as potential users. Like for instance, maybe only users from a particular Active Directory group could be added, or some other such scenario...

Unable to generate correct WSP file from TFS build but works correctly from command line

Here's the code that I am using as part of TFSBuid.proj. When I run the Queue new build from TFS WSP file is generated but the size is just 1KB.
Whereas when run WSPBuilder form command line (using same command as below), WSP file is generated correct (it contains the 12 hive) Please help

Cannot Create New Project

Right after I installed TFS 2008 on Win 2008 and SQL 2008 SP 1 I was able to create a new project just fine. I then setup some domain groups to handle permissions, but did not change any of the existing permissions and then suddenly I cannot create a project anymore. The current project works just fine even sharepoint and reports.

I'm the administrator for the TFS 2008 installation here at my company. I have setup permissions for several projects but now I have a project that has several directories under it and I want to restrict write access on one of those sub directories to just a handful of people. How do I do that?

So, if I have 10 users with Read/Write access to a given project what do I need to do so that only 3 of those users have write access to the specified subdirectory?

TF26198 Error after restoring to new server.

We had a failure of our Team Foundation Data Tier, and we've been working to restore the databases after rebuilding both the AT and DT. Now that both tiers are up and running, users are able to see the work items but get the following error "TF26198: The work item does not exist, or you do not have permission to access it." when trying to access any of the work items. Here's some background information...

Domain didn't change.
The new AT and DT machines have the same names as the original machines.
I have verified the users SID using TFSAdminUtil Sid.
We are able to access source control without a problem.

Unable to undo Checkout with built in Admin Account TF14098

I am unable to undo a checkout by a user with any account including the built-in admin account TFSSetup. I receive the error as if I do not have the correct permissions. I was able to undo other checkouts for that user but once specific checkout is providing the error below. I have used the command via VS2008 Command Prompt and also the Power Tools GUI in Visual Studio.

Does anyone know of any course(s) that deal with the administration of the TFS system? I am not a developer, but the administrator of the TFS suite. The classes I have found so far has some minor administrator things embedded in the, but mainly are for developers or testers or project managers, etc. I am needed hard core admi training, installing, patching, fail overs, SQL databse, reports, project error resolution, etc. Yeah a ton of items. But I have yet ot identify any class that covers this information.

Having created a CheckinEvent subscription on a TFS2008 which calls a service each time someone checkin code. I ran into a problem when the IT department rebooted the server and one of our developers checked code in while the service was down:

With an interval of app 2 hours I see the following in the event viewer:

TF200028: Team Foundation Server started group synchronization. Group synchronization started with the Team Foundation Valid Users group.

Then the CheckinEvent is activated for an old changeset created the day before:

I just installed few updatesand suddenly TFS stopped working. I do not think we changed anything else. The Service Packs installed were Security Update for Windows Server 2003 (KB975025), Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - October 2009 (KB90830), and Update for Internet Explorer 8 for Windows Server 2003 (KB976749). Server was restarted as the part of update install.

Installation is on application server on TFS on Server 2003 R2 and DB on Server 2008 x64

It appears that after another restart of the application server services started OK.

Anyone has any idea why?

Where is the data for Build Coverage

Hello,

I'm trying to build a report for Code Coverage Analysis. I've made the assumption that the data would be in TFSWarehouse.Buildcoverage.

When I query this table (or open it), I find no data, however when I run tests in Team edition & view Code coverage results window there is data showing code coverage analysis for the dll's chosen. Lots of it! Where is this data stored?
