    Folks,

I'm hoping there is a solution to this problem.  When you are on the project home page in TFS web access, the "+ Add Backlog Item" button always defaults to the current iteration.  Is there a way to stop this from happening?

This is the primary mechanism folks use to add backlog items and every time they add one, they accidentally assign it to the current sprint which really screws up my board on a daily basis.

Anything I can do to stop this behavior?

    Please help.

    Thanks.

    Hi Larry,

    Thank you for your post.

Seems you do not want when use +Product Backlog Item, the default iteration points to current sprint, you can drop down the iteration list, select the suitbale one when add a backlog item.

I hope this information will help resolve this issue.

If anything is unclear, please free feel to let me know.

Thank you for the response, but this doesn't help at all.

The users who submit items have no idea which iteration the development team will address the issue in, and in fact, one could argue they should not be able to assign an item to an iteration.  They are the end users.  It's up to the product owner and the dev team to assign issues to iterations, not the end users.

What I am asking is pretty simple...  We should be able to specify a "default" iteration when submitting a backlog item, but it sounds like this capability does not exist in TFS.

    Thanks.

    Hi Larry,

As far as i know, it is not support to have a defult iteration not the current iteration when create a new product backlpg item. Iteration field is also cannot apply rules. Alternatively, you need to manual select a iteration, for example, the top iteration, then product owner assign to a more detail iteration. So, i  suggest you submit a feedback to Visual Studio UserVoice site (http://visualstudio.uservoice.com/forums/121579-visual-studio).
