QuestionWork Items for Project Administrators are disable ?

    Hi experts,

I'm working with TFS 2005 and I'm Project Administrator on a project, I try to add work items but I get the error :
TF24042: You do not have permission to create work items in project...

If I change of group, by putting my loggin in contributor's one, it works perfectly.

My question: is that the normal behavior ?
If it's the case, is there a way to allow Project Administrators to create WI ?

    Thanks In Advance,

    Florent MEREL

By default Project Admins should be able to create work items.

However in the work item type the project admin could be denied to create a work item. Did you make customizations to the work item type?

Ok, I found the Area security panel !!! (I'm a rookie on this subject)

I've "solved" my problem by playing with those securities, but lot of things aren't clear for me:
    - when I open for the first time this panel my account have been declared with a specific security where I was just able to "Edit the node"... It seems that occurs when you're the creator of the Area... (it's the case for me).
    - I though that my Project administrator rights were overriden by this specific security ? So, I remove it, thinking my Administrator rights will then allow me to create WI. And it was not the case !!!
    - In fact to be able to edit WI on all areas, it seems I'm forced to add a specific right for my account at areas root level... Adding my account at root level copy it to all child nodes

Ewald, I was hoping to that Project Admins were able to create WI but not for me :( , The TFS admin said me he didn't make any specific stuffs on WI... Perhaps it came from addin of my Visual Studio ? So the question is still open...

    Thanks anyway

    Hi Florent,

What securities did you apply to "Solve" this issue?

Make sure that you belong to "[Project]\Project Administrators".  By default Project Administrators should be able to create work items. You can ask your TFS admin to view your membership with TFSSecurity /imx indenty /server:<server>  to check whether there is a group that you belong to is denied to create a workitem. If you add other user to "[Project]\Project Administrators", can he create a workitem?

By the way, you could post your issue on the Team Foundation Server - Administrator Forum so you can get better and quicker reply as there are more experts on this topic.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Hi Edwer,

The specific security I set is "Edit work items in this for Area root level.

TFSSecurity command say that I'm "Member of 16 group(s):"
For me 2 lines are interesting :

    e [A] [SERVER]\Team Foundation Valid Users
    a [A] [MY_PROJECT]\Project Administrators

others lines deal with other projects

So I well belong to the Project Administrators group !

As moderator are you able to transfer this post in Team Foundation Server - Administrator Forum ? I can't do it or I don't find the option...

    TIA

Could you explain which options in security tab you change for creating Bug as Work item. In my Visual Studio the same error message appears that " You do not have permission to create work items".

    Thanks
