Hello experts!
What do you think about these features:
I would love to have the possibility the change the "lock" status of an item at the "pending changes" view.
Status: No improvement at TEE 2010 SP1 (Martin W. wrote of a possible improvement for the new release)
Status: No improvement at TEE 2012 Update 1The "synchronize view" should add the possibility to "compare" with local workspace item.
As an information, it would also be helpfull to see the actual changeset number if "Show Changeset Number" option is set true.

Status: well done at TEE 2010 SP1The "Team Explorer" view should provide the possibility to switch and edit "workspace" (like VS).

Status: well done at TEE 2010 SP1The Label information on file base, was added to VS 2010 in context of the history view (see http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=7807943 found here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/153928/can-i-see-tfs-file-history-with-labels).
Will there also be improvements on that topic in the plugin?

Status: No improvement at TEE 2012 Update 1What I have not found comparing to VS, is the possibility of "changeset tracking" and "merge hirarchy" which can be extremely helpfull.
Status: No statusLooking forward to an active discussion.

Hi,
Thanks for your suggestions.
As for the synchronize view, there is a compare functionality, if you right click on the item and do open in compare editor, this actually compares your local version with the latest version on the server. The changeset number is now done in SP1 but you have to set it from the preferences in the synchronize view. If you open the preferences in the synchronize view and check the first option which is "Show all synchronization information in a resources text label", the changeset number should be displayed.
Thanks

Hi,
As for switching and editing workspaces, w're working on improving this experience in our next release. Do you have any specific scenarios around this?
Thanks

Hello Mireille,
First, thanks for taking time and answereing that fast, Thumbs up!
Synchronized view:
I recognized the compare functionality in synchronized view, and was confused about the unconsistance between the different views.
In synchronize view I have:- Open in compare editor
- Open in external compare tool
- Compare with latest revision (Beyound Compare plugin)
- Compare with previouse revision (Beyound Compare plugin)
None of these options brings me to the "Choose items to compare window", which is known from the team context.
This should be harmonized.Thank's for pointing me to "Show all synchronization information in a resources text label", this nice.
All the best,
Martin

Hello Mireille,
As for editing workspaces, I'm happy with the existing "Workspaces" window.
A slight improvement could be an status icon, pointing out the actual active workspace. But the main improvement should be, the way to get to the "Workspace" window:
I would use a button (icon or text) in combination with an label showing the actual icon.
I don't like the solution VS is providing (combobox with list of workspaces plus entry to the editor window) as this is error-prone and not intuitive.I would see the "team explorer" window the write place to put this gui elements, as it is the main entry point to the tfs.
All the best

Hi Martin,
Synchronize View:
I see what you mean about the compare from the synchronize view, it does not open the compare dialog to give the flexibility of choosing any two items for comparison, but at the same time, I think that the main use of compare in synchronize view would be to compare my local version to server version. I will file an enhancement bug and see what we can do about it.
Workspaces:
I agree with you that getting to workspaces dialog is now not very clear and we are working on improving it in our next release. I just have a question for, why is the combobox of workspaces error-prone, the only problem I see is that you might edit a different workspace by mistake, but is there anything else that you see.
Thanks
Mireille

Hello Mireille,
No, I just see the problem of changing the active workspace accidental.
It mostly happens to me when using a scroll mouse and the combobox has the focus.P.S.: I edited the main question, and added a question about label in history view.
All the best,
Martin

Regarding the label improvements, yes we do plan on adding similar imporvements into the Eclipse UI but we haven't yet decided in exactly what form or when they will be delivered. In Eclipse 3.2 and higher Eclipse itself has a notion of a history view and we might try to fit into that rather than reproducing the Visual Studio interface - yet to figure this out.
But thanks for the great feedback. Please do keep it coming as it is much appreciated.
Thanks,
Martin.

Thanks - good to see we made some progress for you. The changes we made to the Sync view in particular were as a direct result of your feedback.
Regarding the changing of locks from the pending changes view, we're going to be doing some changes to the pending changes view in the next release and I'll look at how we can incorporate this feedback into the new design. Will let you know as we start looking at this area later in the year how we end up getting on and if I have any more questions.
Thanks again - really is much appreciated by everyone here.
(The other) Martin.

P.S.: I was very late with the SP1 release, because there was no info at the forum! (No Announcement!) -
Wednesday, February 13, 2013 9:18 AMHello Martin, I'm just testing the new version (TEE 2012 Update 1) of the plugin, which runs very stabily and looks good so far. Thanks for the hard work! I will edit the main question. Thank's for taking time! All the best Martin
