Select Data Sync server in another Region

Answered Select Data Sync server in another Region

We have SQL Azure database servers in North Central US and Northern Europe. When I create a sync group I am only given the option to select a server in North Central US.

I then added a hosted service in Northern Europe thinking this might make the Northern Europe data sync service available, but no.

The North Central US data sync service sometimes has trouble retrieving the database schema from Northern Europe. How do I create a data sync service in Northern Europe?

just to clarify, you have provisioned a new Data Sync Service on the Northern Europe but its not appearing when you select a Data Sync Service in the Create New Sync Group UI?

What error do you get when retrieving database schema from Northern Europe when configuring the sync group on the North Central US?

We have database servers on both North Central US and Northern Europe. I would like to provision a new Data Sync Service in Northern Europe but am not given the option. The only option when I create a new Data Sync Service is North Central US.

It isn't there for me June. Under my subscriptions I only see North Central US, but I have hosted services and database servers in both North Central US and Northern Europe.

The Create Sync Group dialog asks me to select my subscription and Data Sync Server, but the drop down list shows only North Central US.

Do I have to create a separate subscription in Northern Europe?

provisioning the Data Sync Service is different from Creating a Sync Group.

you have to provision the Data Sync Service on the Northern Europe first if you want to create sync groups on it.

    To provision,

click on Data Sync on the lower left (in between Database and Reporting)

click on the Provision at the upper left corner,

    select the subscription,

    then select the region

    is that what you're doing?

No that isn't what I was doing. I just clicked Create. Now that I click Provision I accept the license agreement, then the drop-down list to select subscription has no subscriptions in it.

seems like they change the limits, you can only have one Data Sync Service server per subscription, see: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windowsazure/hh667301.aspx#bkmk_datasynclimits

you already have one in your North Central US.

I've deleted the North Central Data Sync server and can now create one in Northern Europe.

Thank you for your help June.

We will support multi regions in the coming release, so that one subscription can create sync group in different regions.

Thanks for the update Vinci. That will be useful to those of us who operate across regions.
