SQL 2008 R2 (10.50.2500) - help with 'dbcc checkdb' results

Question

Hi,

we use Symantec BackupExec to backup our environment and it show alerts asking to run 'dbcc checkdb' again one of hosted db, the results are bellow but I don´t SQL skills to assess.

Can some one help me to determine if we have some 'errors' with that db? If so, how to fix?

Hi,

DBCC results show that you have consistency errors.

DBCC CHECKDB checks the physical and logical consistency of database pages, rows, allocation pages, index relationships, systerm table referential integrity, and other structure checks. If any of these checks fail (depending on the options you have chosen), errors will be reported as part of the command.

The cause of these problems can vary from file system corruption, underlying hardware system issues, driver issues, corrupted pages in memory, or problems with the SQL Server Engine. Read through the Resolution section for more information on how to find the cause of errors that are reported.

So, the best way is to recover your database from a valid good backup. As you mentioned you are using Symantec BackupExec, so, you can easily restore the database. However, you can use REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS argument on DBCC CHECKDB.

Your DBCC checkdb is showing 2 consistancy errors, mention below. 

Both errors are with user tables that you can recovery with REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS argument on DBCC CHECKDB.

DBCC CHECKDB (DBNAME, 'REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS')

But, As an DBA I never recommended to go with REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS due to data loss. I recommend to restore the database  with available latest backup.

no update usage is not the correct thing to use here.

UPDATEUSAGE used for "Reports and corrects pages and row count inaccuracies in the catalog views. These inaccuracies may cause incorrect space usage reports returned by the sp_spaceused system stored procedure."
